I had the same problem you do.
When I got close to the Mpro upgrade, I made the decision to stay with the Koen for at least another 3 levels, and in that time, I was just insane with it. I actually beat the sh** out of other Mpros with higher lvls than me!
I didnt want to go mpro and I thought I would never see myself using it because it was worse. But time and higher lvls gave way to weakness, I wasnt getting as much exp and I was dying easier, so I finally went to mpro and because I leveled up more before I went mpro, the transition was alot easier.
I would STRONGLY reccomend that before you transfer into a new ship upgrade, stay with the ship you have NOW at least 2 more levels after the upgrade.
Because you stay with the ship you just got used to, you become amazingly deadly and efficient. And when the time comes to move to the new hull, you will be better off because you trained yourself more. (An analogy is like putting a 1980 car engine in the body of a 2005 hummer when you upgrade and immediately move into it, where the engine is your crew and the hummer is your ship. When you stay with the ship you have now for another 2 or so levels, its like putting a semi truck engine in the body of a honda civic).
