  • search and necro?

Sona
hi just here to ask a question. i was looking through some threads just before and i
noticed that it seems threads can get locked for necroing. (for thoes who dont know,
bringing back a post that is old) i dont think that is right at all because the admins
clearly state to use the search function and ask questions on posts that are already
posted. why should a thread get locked for doing just that?

I'll point out that in the event that you do find a thread that answers your question,
you're not under any obligation to make a post in it; simply leaving it be is good
enough. Not finding your answer after a deliberate search is the only occasion where
you should either make a post in a related thread (newer is better), or make a new
thread altogether.

I think that's much less an assessment of the functionality of the search feature and more
a denunciation of the community as a whole.

but then again, the search function sucks, and not that many people will try searching for
something if it takes them more than 2 mins.

If you necro a post and ask something relevant, you won't get blasted for it, but there is
practically nothing new in NF that has not been discovered and discussed thoroughly, so
resurrecting dead threads does nothing but add to the cluttering spam.

Also, it is unwise to search for a topic and post in the first thread that seems relevant;
there are often a number of threads available that can be combed to find the answer or
pertinent information - such searching is far better than both +1'ing and +10'ing.
