IJN AA Guide ~A Guide to Clear Skies~
V1
So I saw a post asking for a new AA post and I figured I뭗 try and compile some
things I뭭e learned while playing NF. This is by no means a complete guide as many
players have their own preferences. But it뭩 a rough draft to help people find their
way. Also anyone who wants to add PM me to add your thoughts

The guide is divided into parts:
Intro: For what you need to have
Equipment: Discussing the main weapons you뭠l be using
Ships: What you뭠l need to drive in order to be a potent AA ship
Tips: Basic tactics and the know-how that you뭠l need to succeed and survive

**Please refrain from posting any information without checking it out, flaming,
random useless spam or any other forum no-nos.

Thanks,

@Sintri: What ships do you recommend using those guns on? I have found the 6.1a to
be formidable post-patch, most enemy planes are 1-shot with those long-range guns.
I'll experiment with them. Thanks.

At any rate, 3.9's golden angles at 36. the 38 hits further but there's a large gap
between your hit zones, just like the old 4.7s used to have a 28 optional golden
that can generally hit scouts beyond the 25 but bit useless for things coming
towards you. Anyways, the 3.9s are no longer the heaviest guns either.

Few notes.
4.7", no longer the greatest AA guns on earth since the nerf, not much else to say.

3", possibly the best anti-db gun ever, small, compact, light weight, fastest firing in
the IJN, second fastest of all the nations, fastest HE capable gun. Great gun overall,
if you can look past the fact that it has no range and somewhat light damage. Don't
get me wrong, you can still punch through a dd in less than 5 seconds and a sub in
less than 10, but you can't really fight CAs and BBs just partially because of the
range problem. As always, comes with a 90 degree angle for last minute flak
spamming.

3.9", improves on the 3" guns by alot. Well downsides first, it's abit heavier, you
carry less ammo, and it's a slightly longer reload. The good, most notably is the
range, so much more range than the 3" guns. Second thing you'll notice is double
the damage output of the 3's. These guns still carry 90 degree angles which is
great as always for the last ditch AA. The HE capabilities of these guns are quite
possibly the best you can get, Sink DDs in less than 2 seconds, CLs in less than 5,
subs in less than 5, CAs in 5-15, BBs in 5-20+. AA capabilities are probably second
best anti-db, anti-scout's been raised considerbly from the 3", though anti-tb top
holder'd still be the 4.7s just cause of their angles.

6.1A", useless after the nerf.

Krauts - Thank you for an excellent guide.

I power levelled a Kita BO to test out that AA setup. It was sorta fun, but the Mog is
a much better aaw setup.

The issues with the Kita:
(a) Not a lot of displacement. When I tried to load out the boat with 4 hedgehogs on
the r slots and my fat higher level crew (level 83 aa gunners) just could not fit
everything.

(b) Firing angles are narrow. You have to constantly turn the ship to fire at planes
which makes it difficult to chase down a scout. In the Mog you fire 9 x 6" bullets
directly forward which makes that tactic quite doable.

(c) Fewer crew slots. Part of AAW is to level up and get experts and you only have 3
gunner slots on board and 3 supports.

<<pre-flaming myself: Yes, I know, this is all obvious. A Kita is a TW not an AAW!
Duh. Sorry.>>

Krauts: I have to use the 6.1a on my MogCA because I'm using a higher level crew,
which are all fat (level 75-85's), and I can't fit the N/D/L guns anymore. You are right
though, with at-level gunners you might prefer the N/D/L guns as you can shoot
other smaller ships besides just anti-air.

In the stickied post it says the 6.1trips only fit the Mog/Myoko, but they also fit the
Yam/SuperYam.

6.1A guns are MUCH lighter than the N/L/D guns so are much better for AAW setup
even though every once in awhile a stupid ff will chase you around and annoy the heck
out of you.

MogCA with hedgehogs on the tslots is my fave.

About to try a Kita AAW setup as a t-slot AA gun loadout is easier to aim when planes
fly overhead.

The 6.1a guns pwn in GB. I have had some rounds with 25k credits and 20k experience
for crew...in a CA!

w00t didn't notice I got stickied :D

In responce to the last post..

On Mogami, if you use the 6.1 A variant guns, due to ONF BB34AA patch, you cannot
use the HE shells or AP shells. AA only.

However, if you want a decrease in range but better surface punch, the NLD
varients work fairly well. If you want to snipe and blockshot, to a degree, (assuming
decent gunners) use the Ns. If you value range, use the Ls.

just a question. Can the 6.1" carry HE shell or only AA shell? I might give it a try in
Mog. But not having HE shell is not good, Brook's 6" can have decent defense against
surface and air.

After the BB34AA patch, the triple 6"A guns got the right buff and now have better
range and reload time (double than that of the 4.7, but still good).

That's why I agree with you now that Mogami CL AAing is second best, second only t
Yammy&SY.

But when the choice is between Mogami with 4.7 and Kita with 4.7, I still support
Kita... I have tried both for a decent time... I got better results with the kita running
1 lvl 80+ engineer. Mog R slot AAing is not that world of a difference in angles... and
its harder to switch sides...

4.7s for BB; 6" for CL. Woot.

And Aingeal is right. Mogami is probably the best CL for AAing.

@alex

Mog CL AAing is lot better than TW AAing.

Dont even try to argue the point, THe gun arc are so restricted, you have to turn the
whole ship toward the plane, which is a bit longer than turning guns.

The middle space is easily fixed by crossing your lines.

I also like to give my ship a slightly inclined position toward the planes coming, as it
makes my front and rear salvo FOLLOW each others rather than stack, which gives me a
better golden angle coverage zone, and sometimes the rear salvo will fetch a plane that
went over the front one.

Also while the mog only has 3 gun in front, 9x120 dmg shell hurt a lot, which allows it to
rush planes better. The fix they made to the 3x6,1 A are really nice as far as I can say.
