1) I cant post anywhere else but here/I cant verify my e-mail, I never get the E-mail.

- pt1. I cant post anywhere!
This is due to the fact you haven't verified your e-mail. To do this you must enter My
Account at the blue menu to the left. Continue through the menus until you get
to verify my E-mail, before you click on this make sure your e-mail address is
correct and one you can retrieve the message from. After you click verify, check your
e-mail bin you should have received the message (if not go to part 2). There will be
a link below your username and address, click on this. The next step is to log out,
and re-log back into the website, after which you should be good to go.

- pt2. I cant verify, I never get the e-mail.
Often with this e-mail many E-mail providers will consider it junk mail, check in your
junk mail or Spam bins in your mailbox. One note it seems that AOL & MSN
(passport, MSN, Hotmail, etc) may even delete the message before it reaches your
inbox. Using an alternate address may be easier.

- pt3. Mozilla Web Browser Issue
If you check on your Personal Profile that your email is already verified, and you are
using Mozilla as your Web Browser, but you cannot post in anywhere, then you can
check:
-> Enable JavaScript
-> Clear the Browser's Cache

Clearing the cache seems to make Mozilla work again

- pt4. If none of the solution that list above work
Then you will need to submit the ticket and also use your register email to send a
verification email to [email protected], after we receive your request and verify
your email is matched, then we will fix that for you.

============================================================
2) Error message: data file has corrupted

- pt1. Armor menu. Remove all armor, one armor type at a time, exiting the menu
each time. (Ex, remove all bulkhead armor. Click okay. Click okay again, Re enter
armor menu, do the next type).
Once all armor is removed place armor back on ship in same manner (one type at a
time). Each time you adjust your armor, be sure to only adjust one type per visit to
the menu.

- pt2. Anywhere Else.
Exit Game (if not crashed already), Delete all .Data files, and restart the game.
Autoupdater should re-download those files from the server, and you will be good to
go.

-pt3. After update patch
If you get this error message after auto update patch, then please download the
latest update patch from the "manual download" section of www.navyfield.com or
here (http://trainworld.us/NF2/English/download_patch.html) and do manual install
again. (Also please read #24 in this post)

============================================================
3) about message: Hacking attempt detected
This message appears when your Navy Field has not completed the update.

If Hacking attempt detected shows up,

please Try downloading and installing the latest patch manually.

If the above method does not work. Try downloading and installing the full game.

============================================================
4) Error message: current version is different of the game server
- If you are trying to log in, and face this message, please try downloading the patch
from the website, and unzip it, use copy paste method to over write the files in the
correct folder in your Navy Field folder.

- If this message shows up again, uninstall Navy Field from your computer, and
download/install the full version from the website.

============================================================
5) I cant get into the game/Lag/Connection speed Low/etc.
- pt1. Is your firewall burning you?
If you are using windows XP sp2, there is a firewall built in to windows. To allow an
exception for Navy Field follow the following steps.
A) Go to control panel
B) Go to Windows Firewall
C) Go to Exceptions
D) Click Add Program...
E) If Navy Field is not on the list click browse. C:\program files\Sdenternet\Navyfield
is the default spot for Navyfield. Double click on Navyfield program file.
F) Click ok, and Ok. This should allow NavyField to interact with the Internet.

If you have an external or separate software firewall, please be sure you have given
NavyField.exe full access to the internet. Port forwarding is also an option NavyField
uses TCP ports 8001 and 16671. For instructions on how to configure please consult
manufacturer.

- pt2. Could it be DEP?
Try turning off your DEP. If you are using Win XP sp2 these instructions should work
for you.

A) Go to the Control Panel
B) Double-click on the SYSTEM icon.
C) Click on the ADVANCED tab.
D) Click on the SETTINGS button in the PERFORMANCE section.
E) Click on the DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION tab.
F) Check the checkbox in front of Turn on DEP for all programs and services except
those I select
G) Click ADD
H) Navigate to your NF directory and add the NavyFIELD.exe

H2) Also add the Updater's .exe (NOT JUST THE LINK!) to the list!

- pt3. Wireless?
It seems many people report lag, Connection loss, and inability to even log in, has
come from them using a wireless connection. They have cleared up their problems by
using a long cord. This may sound odd, but it has worked for many people.

- pt4. Drivers up to date?
Are all of your drivers up to date? Video Drivers, DirectX, Sound Drivers,
Motherboard, etc...

- pt5. Defragged HDD lately?
Try defragging your Hard Disk Drives!

- pt6. TCP Optimizer.
Some people have said their connection related crash problems have been solved by
this program. You may find the original post about this program
http://www.navyfield.com/board/view.asp?
Num=2563&Sort=E09&Order=re_upday&PageSize=20&Page=2

- pt7. Dont Forget Virtual Memory!
Your virtual memory (or page file) is a way windows uses space on your hard drive
like ram. Many people report that at least double the physical amount of ram you
have is a good number for this. Personally I use about 1500mb. Here is how to
adjust it to suit your needs.
A) Go to control panel
B) Go to System
C) Click on Advanced Tab
D) Click on Performance Settings
E) Click on Advanced Tab
F) Click Change near bottom under Virtual Memory
G) Click Custom Size and Adjust to Taste. Minimum somewhere around 768 and max
around 1500 is what I have set.
H) Click Set. Ok. Apply.

- pt8. U.R.R.
If all else fails, or even at first sight of trouble, often the best way to fix problems
in NF is an Uninstall, Re-download, Re-install. Remember, all of your ship, sailor, and
credit/point information is all stored on the main server so deleting navy field from
your computer completely will not affect this.

- pt9 Restart!
This should be obvious, but I guess its not. If you are having difficulties with any
program, ever, restart your computer. This solves 1/4 of all software issues.

-pt10 Malware
Could it be you have a malware infection (spyware, adware, virus, ect)? Please run a
scan using spybot search and destroy as well as adaware
Spybot- http://www.safer-networking.org/
Adaware- http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
Run these applications and scan your computer with your virus scanner.

============================================================
6) Play your local NavyField?!
If you recieve this message, it means you are using an other Version of Windows
besides English Version, you need to change your regional settings to reflect the
United States.
~ Go to your Control Panel and under Reigonal Settings, you will find a host of
settings many of which you should switch to either United States or English.
OR
~ Go to download Microsoft AppLocale, this can help you to run the NF software in
any type of language platform, if you need more information, please go to see the
Microsoft AppLocale Offical menu.

============================================================
7) White/blackscreen bug, Timeouts...
The problems included:

-the login-process timing out
-often getting connection lost errors , during games, in the harbor and at the login
screen
-blackscreen-freeze while loading
-whitescreen-freeze when the view shifts to the port at the start
-being unable to control the ship ingame

Those were all fixed for me with this program but I would like to get it tested by
more people.

If you are willing to try something on your own risk then please follow this and
report back:

Go to

http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Please download the tool called TCP Optimizer.

To use it, first select the network adapter you use and then your connection speed
by using the top slider.

Then go to FILE and create a backup of your current settings.

Then select OPTIMAL SETTINGS in the lower right of the GENERAL SETTINGS tab.

Click APPLY CHANGES and restart your PC.

Now check NF if the problems were solved and PLEASE REPORT BACK HERE!

Also please check if you have NetLimiter installed. If you have it installed please
uninstall it! It is causing problems with NF!
Thank you very much for your attention.

8) Resolve NF lockup issues

Here are two new steps which players can take in order to fix issues with game
lockup or crashing issues.

I) Change the screen color depth to 16 bits
You can do this by right clicking on your desktop, clicking properties, and then
accessing the settings tab. From there you can change the color quality from 32 bit
to 16 bit then click ok.

II) Change compatibility mode to windows 2000
You can do this by right clicking on your NF icon. Click on poperties, then select the
compatibility tab. select Run this program compatibility mode for: and select
Windows 2000 then click ok.

These steps are not guaranteed to work, but in many cases they will indeed help.

============================================================
9) I just logged in and Ive lost *ALL* of my stuff, was my account deleted?
No, your account is safe and sound on the main server. If you log into your account,
and it looks like you are starting over, log out and be sure you are logging into the
correct server. Remember:

=> US1 Arizona (Old Name ~ Bismarck / Prince of Wales / Seattle / Vancouver)
=> US2 Missouri (Old Name ~ Iowa / Yamato / Seattle)

============================================================
10) When I press F11 and Zoom out my screen gets all weird with Green at the top
and the mouse pointer has trails.
This common problem may be over come by not using Alt-Tab or the Windows
Key or any other method to drop to desktop while NavyField is loading (Startup,
After you enter ID and PW before Shipyard, Directly Before Battle, Etc).
It is also advisable, if you are having Zoom related graphics bugs, to set your
colourdepth on the Desktop to 16 bits.

============================================================
11) Cannot Select Mission
~ Cant select the Decapacitate the battleships (aka. Mission 110) anymore
Press the UP ARROW key on your keyboard in the mission select window

~Cant select any mission/vers few missions
Please check the level cap for the mission, above this you cannot start it. Also try
taking off your torps if you have any

============================================================
12) Programs To Avoid
NetLimiter
Do not use NetLimiter with NF.
Even only having Netlimiter installed and not using it bugs NavyField, resulting in
various connection errors (black/whitescreen freeze, connection losses, control
losses...)

============================================================
13) Programs To Help
~ Everest Home Edition
http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1=en
Free program to find out about the specs of your PC

~ TCP Optimizer
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php
http://www.navyfield.com/board/view.asp?
Num=2563&Sort=E09&Order=re_upday&PageSize=20&Page=2
May help to clean up your connection to the server, thus making it quicker and less
prone to error. For usage with this game please note seccond link, with suggestions
by Obst.

============================================================
14) Already logged on error
To get around this problem just log into the opposite server than normal if possible
this will kill your other connection to the server then you can log out and back on to
your normal server.

============================================================
15) Error Codes 1607, 1628 , 0xFA4C , 0xF3B2, VC file
Please, follow these directions CAREFULLY paying extra attention
to be sure you are deleting the updater and the game files.

1. Remove all NF files, first start in Control panel and remove ENFUNS Updater and
any Navyfield installations. Then go to your program files area and look for
SDenternet folders, delete them. Find all previous downloads, patches, ETC. DELETE
them.

2. Download NF. Be sure you do so from Navyfield.com and not from some outdated
mirror.

3. Restart Computer.

4. Reinstall, dont open other programs, make sure installer is on top.

This should then prompt you to download the ENFUNS updater. Click yes. It will
download and install it's self. This should eventually end with you back at desktop.
Access your firewall, wether that be the built in windows firewall, or zonealarm or
that norton icon in the corner.. you will NEED to allow the ENFUNS Updater access to
the internet.

Next double click Launcher from your desktop, and you will start the updater, it will
update a few files.

Then click play game, and you should be all good.
______________________

If you get error 1607, 1628 , 0xFA4C , 0xF3B2 Please Do step 1 then:
A) Download newest version of InstallSheild:
http://support.installshield.com/kb/files/Q108158/IsScript7.zip

B) Double Click on file (if you do not have the ability to open .zip files, you will need
to download winzip or similar program).

C) Run enclosed file.

This will update your Version of InstallSheild From this point you can proceed with
step 2 above

For the orginal post, please visit

_____________________

If you get an error related to the VC file (Version Configuration) while the updater is
running, this means your computer is blocking the updater's access to the internet.
Please be sure that you have allowed access for this program. ENFUNS updater.

Remark: most of the time, just a simple process to fix the prob. Such as set allow NF
updater and NF pass through your firewall or antivirus. Moreover you can try to
check on the LAN setting, is it set to Auto to connect.

______________________

Well, someone's problems with NF crashing was solved today after he made sure
that BOTH the nf.exe AND the Updater's .exe (NOT JUST THE LINK!) were on DEP list
of excluded programs.

Remember, this is for people that experience crashes and maybe even freezes as
well as sudden system reboots (when WinDumb is configured to reboot on critical
errors) anytime during the startup process (which begins when you start the
Launcher).

Only applies to WinXP SP2.

-------------------------
-------------------------
If none of the above information works for you here is another method that has
worked for
many.

1. In your add/remove programs list (control panel, add/remove programs) remove
a) Navyfield
b) Navyfield North America
c) ENFUpdater

2. Using windows explorer
a.start
b.programs
c.accesories
d.windows explorer
In your c: drive "program files" directory delete any SD Enternet folders (up to 2
folders).

3. If you downloaded the client before retail, or from another source, re download
the
client from navyfield.com, And download the Manual Patch.

2. run the navyfield launcher but cancel as soon at it starts downloading

3. find ur ENFUNS Updater folder, by default it's under C:\Program Files\SD
EnterNET\ENFUNS Updater

4. go into ...\Downloaded\NAVYFIELDUS and i will see a folder called
NAVYFIELDUS1115-1116

5. delete the content of that folder, extract the content of the manual patch (from
step
3) into that folder

6. Run the game launcher and enjoy

Thanks to Temstar and ephereal.

21) To McAfee and NetLimiter users
12 21 2005 4:00AM
Dear fans of NF,

*This post is an updated version of the previous thread*

We have recently discovered that having McAfee or NetLimiter programs running
while trying to play Navy Field may cause the following problems: lag, disconnects,
loss of control, server access denial and some other weird things.
You may experience "Network speed is too slow" or "Login time is over" errors as
well.

The problem with NetLimiter does not only affect NF, NetLimiter also has problems
with some other programs and system configurations.

To bypass the "NetLimiter Issue", please uninstall (simply shutting it down wont
work!) NetLimiter.

The "McAfee Issue" is caused by the "Privacy Service" Component of the Suite.

So if you are having problems connecting and you got the Mc Afee Security Suite,
use custom install and only use "Personal Firewall, Antivirus, Spamkiller". Dont use
the Privacy Service.

Or if you allready installed the whole thing. go to "Start -> Software"
choose "McAfee Privacy Service" and remove it. (on your own risk of course).

And just to make sure that no one misreads this post:

Neither do we claim that these programs are the only source for
the problems you experience, nor do we claim that everyone using these programs
will experience issues.

However, our point here is that we do have reported cases of these programs
causing problems, so if you have these programs and have issues with NF this
MIGHT (and only MIGHT) be (one of the) cause(s) for your issues.

Thank you for playing Navy Field,

Team NF & Obst

Thanks to "hoschman" for helping with that Issue.

=====================================================

22) "Network Speed is too slow/login timed-out" fix

This possible fix is for those that are having issues with the HA patch of 10-13-06:

"Ok, the problem is this:
when trying to connect to the server(any of the two).. instead of going into the
harbour it stays in the login screen for 1-2 mins then a window appears with the
msg "connection to the server has been lost" and below in the message window
sometimes the msg "network speed is too slow. Please try again".

the FIX: apparently the problem is cause by the onboard network card on nforce 3-4
with older drivers which are sending incorrect packets to the server. The fix is as
easy as downloading the latest nforce4 drivers and installing them . BE SURE TO
UNINSTALL OLD DRIVER FIRST,THEN REBOOT BEFORE INSTALL.
If you have a different mainboard, try latest drivers for your model. If you are using
separate network card, latest drivers for that..See the pattern here? :P"

ty Rhyno for the details on this fix

24) Auto-Update File Corruption

This fix is for people who have problems with the ENFUNS Updater, where it tries to
update the game, but it doesnt work, and the update becomes corrupt because of it.

~ Uninstalling the game is NOT required for this fix to work ~

Step 1: Find this file and delete the file and everything in it...
C:\Program Files\SD EnterNET\ENFUNS Updater\Downloaded\NAVYFIELDUS

Step 2: Download and install the manual patch for the game update you need

(Note: This information was passed down from NFGM, he was not able to
describe much more than I have provided, if there is a problem discovered from this
fix please let us know and we will let NFGM know.)

rubberman419
I downloaded the TCP optimiser and it removed quite a lot of lag. I also raised a
question with my ISP regarding interleaving. This can slow down the hop times by
about 40ms. I put in a request to get this turned off, will let you know how it goes.

Pinched this from the NTL trouble shooting page, thought it may be useful.

The most common complaint from on-line gamers is that they experience too high a
latency or ping time (technically known as the round trip time, RTT, usually measured
in milliseconds) when playing games connected to an on-line game server via a cable
modem. Often the latency times they complain of from their game are far higher than
the RTTs measured by system commands such as ping or tracert. Games users often
also report suffering from higher packet loss than detected by system utilities.

Possible causes of high ping times and packet loss in on-line games are that:

the game's network traffic is exceeding the cable modem's rate cap, and the cable
modem itself is therefore causing network packets to be delayed or lost;
the game's network traffic is exceeding the game server's per-client rate cap - a
mechanism which can be used by server admins to limit the natural advantage that
cable/DSL users have over slow modem users. For instance, Barrysworld servers set
a rate cap of 10000 bytes per second.
A possible cause of this is that some games, when they detect that (or are told that)
the connection is via ethernet or USB, automatically switch themselves into a
configuration designed for a 10Mbps LAN connection, where very high network traffic
is possible. The game is ignorant of the rate capping in the cable modem, and
overloads the connection, causing the latency. The rate capping in the cable modem
will generally be non-destructive for TCP traffic, but many games use UDP (unreliable
datagram protocol), where rate capping can lead to packet loss as well as high ping
times. The downstream and upstream network demands of a game are reasonably
symmetric, whereas cable modem rate caps are not, so it is the lower upstream rate
cap that affects game-players most.

Therefore, many network games require their configuration to be tweaked so that
they are aware that the cable connection is slower than a normal LAN connection.
You should tweak the game down to the safe throughput of your upstream
connection: for instance a 128kbps upstream can sustain only about 12000 bytes
per second before rate-capping begins to take effect, and even that assumes a clear
network path to an uncapped server: if the network is congested, or the server
capped, a lower value will be required. Many game service providers cap the per-
client data rate at 10000 bytes per second, so there is no point trying higher than
this.

Latency in DOCSIS cable modem systems
Apart from normal internet latencies, there are additional latencies caused by the
DOCSIS cable modem system. The ping times one gets on tests from a PC to the
UBR, for instance, far exceed the times one can normally account for with the short
length and high speed of the cable network. The main reasons for additional latency
between the cable modem and the UBR are:
allocation of upstream transmission slots to cable modems;
Forward Error Correction (FEC) interleaving;
operation of the rate caps.
Upstream slots: Unlike an ethernet card, a cable modem is not allowed to transmit
on demand. A single upstream channel frequency has to be shared by hundreds of
cable modems that cannot hear each other's transmissions. If more than one cable
modem transmitted at once, the UBR would not be able to understand either of
them. So all cable modems must remain silent until they are allocated a time slot
(measured with a precision of microseconds) by the UBR. The time-slot allocations
are broadcast by the UBR on the downstream as MAP packets, so called because
they map time slots to individual cable modems. So a typical sequence might be:

PC transmits a packet to the cable modem.
The cable modem stores the packet, and waits for an opportunity to transmit a
bandwidth request to the UBR.
The UBR receives the bandwidth request, and schedules an upstream time-slot in
the near future. This is added to a list of such scheduled slots for all other cable
modems, and transmitted as a MAP packet at intervals on the downstream channel.
The cable modem monitors all MAP packets on the downstream. When it sees a
timeslot allocated to itself, it waits until that allocated time, and then transmits the
waiting packet.
All of this takes time. If the upstream is congested, the UBR might not be able to
allocate a time-slot until some considerable time in the future, and poor latency will
be seen. If signal conditions on the cable are poor, the bandwidth request or the
MAP packet might not be heard, and nothing will happen until the cable modem
retries the bandwidth request.

FEC Interleaving: The data transmitted by the UBR on the downstream, and by cable
modems on the upstream, carries with it extra information, enabling simple errors
(e.g. from noise) to be corrected at the receiving end: this is called Forward Error
Correction. To reduce the effect of impulse noise (e.g. from mains switching, typical
of domestic environments), the data bits are interleaved (sent out of order) after the
FEC is applied, and put back into order at the receiving end before FEC correction.
The interleaving and de-interleaving causes some additional unavoidable latency,
but usually very little compared to other effects.

Rate caps: The upstream rate cap enforcement in the UBR is like a leaky bucket: the
user's PC is allowed to send data in a bursty sort of way, maybe exceeding the rate
cap for a few seconds, but the data is buffered in the UBR and transmitted onwards
at a steady rate, not exceeding the rate cap. This is like slopping water randomly
into a leaky bucket: however much is held in the bucket, it dribbles out of the leak at
a fixed rate. But the effect of buffering the data in the UBR and holding it in the leaky
bucket is to add dramatically to the latency, maybe thousands of milliseconds. Thus,
if latency matters to you, you must avoid sending data faster than your upstream
rate cap: you can achieve this only with bandwidth throttling software in your own
PC, or by configuring individual applications.

All the above effects combine to give an RTT between the user's PC and the UBR
(first hop in the ISP's network) which is usually no better then 7 or 8 milliseconds.

It is important to realise that, unlike dial-up modems, the latency arising from
transmission delay on cable modems is independent of the rate caps. One packet is
transmitted on the downstream at roughly 30Mbps, regardless of the downstream
rate cap. One packet is transmitted on the upstream at roughtly 2.56Mbps,
regardless of the upstream rate cap. So ping times on a 128kbps service will be the
same as ping times on a 1Mbps service. The different rate caps affect only how often
packets are allowed, not the transmission rate of a single packet.

And finally from the BT site

What is interleaving? What are its pros and cons? Can I request it to be switched
off?
Interleaving is a feature of Up to 8Mb Broadband technology which uses powerful
error-correction algorithms to improve broadband speed and stability on long or
noisy phone lines. It is employed on BT broadband lines.

Whilst interleaving increases both the speed and stability of your broadband service,
it can also increase the delay (latency) of a broadband connection by up to 40ms.
Whilst not noticeable to most users, this can adversely affect some highly delay-
sensitive applications such as certain online games.

I guess NF is a prime example for me, hope that this helps someone.

This is a great support guide for very common problems.

However, I want to use normal "window (like internet explorer)" to play NF (instead
of full screen), do you any of you guys have an idea on how to do this?

Hi there,

I've got a problem.
I've been playing NF for about two months now and I like it. But since a couple of
days my mouse isn't working ok when I'm logged in. It's slow, or not working at all...
When I'm logged out everything is back to normal.
I'm playing in the New York server room and my name is TheDiscipel.

Can you help me please?

The Discipel

I hate to sound like a noob, but, just where is the "verify my E-mail" button?...

I just went to my account and there was no such button...

I've been here for a couple of months, so if the e-mail was in the junk, then it was
erased long ago...

What can I do now?

Any help would be welcome :S

Hi all,

I keep losing connection when i play for like 20 mins. It always happen when i just
entered a room. But when i have exited the game, i still have connecion. Firewall isnt
blocking it. McAfee Security Suite isnt installed.

I run on Vista(I know its crap but i cant deinstall Vista since my processor is based
on Vista).

Im getting sick of it so i would like a solution from you guys if possible.

Disto
I still cannot post on the rest of the forums even though I'm sure my email is verified (I
can't remember but it doesn't give me an option and I cannot change it or anything, I also
checked that "I forgot my Password" worked (it does))

I'm kind of clueless as to why. I've tried it in both FF (before and after I emptied my
cache, with JavaScript on) and in IE. With no success.
