If I'm getting a Kitakami, which should I get? The Special Torpedo (eventually the Torpedo Kai Man) or the Hyper Torpedo?

Search is your friend.... Anyway go Specail for more ability allowing you to take off more recruits later for lighter sailors.
Originally there were supposed top be 2 different types of torpedo launchers but that was eventually scrapped.
