  • i have a few question about SS and more

Hi, so I heard all about delay-classing and how ijn SS's are powerful, and have max range.
So how does delay-classing help your sailors, and when should you do it? (I've read about it some where, but just want to check to make sure when is the correct level to class). Also, which IJN SS's have back torps and which dont? It's hard to find out as the shipyard gadget doesn't tell.  Also, how many support slots are on each SS? I play KM SS, but stop quickly as IJN seemed better. And do you think Seaman are important? Thx.

Well i have a sub crew but it's just... plain (no lateclassing sheningans).

But from what i learned AFTER i made my sub crew:
Planesman and Sonarman can be late classed to maximize repair and restore growth (classing them from support lowers the growth for "irrelevant" stats) so you can SD cap easier and sooner. It also lowers the # of crew whitch while lowers the ability of the sailor also reduces his size and you will probably have to ghost some sailors anyway.
I'm not going to talk about how to late class them because frankly i don't know and don't
want to provide you with false info.

KM subs are as good as IJN but specialize in killing other subs and smaller ships.
IJN subs are capital ship killers.

SS1 - 6 front torps
SS2 - 6 front torps 2 back torps
SS3 - 4 front torps 2 back torps
SS4 - 8 front torps
SS5 - 6 front torps + Can carry Torpedo bombers.

I don't think seamen are important better put another engy or a repairer instead.

Also, i saw that the Junsen has 20/20 in the guns. Is this 2 sailor operating each gun or 1 sailor operating both guns?

I think thee is only one slot for a gunner so it'd e 1 sailor for 2 guns.
In general subs with guns only need one gunner i think.

But seriously speaking noone uses guns on subs aside of the odd KM SS4 (those machineguns tear things up like noones buisness)

The Junsen does indeed utilize two sailors for its guns, however, the usefulness of the guns aren't great. You deal high damage per shot and decent range (for a 5.5") but exposing yourself on the surface with the size of the Junsen is very risky. At the most I'd advise them to chase away an AA ship or an FF. Attacking a carrier(which could be loaded with hedgehog or DP guns) or Battleship with them is just pointless.

On top of this, the gun slots should probably be used for supports such as engies.

Realize on the Junsen,  engies in gun slots provide no additional speed.  Only put them there to class up the sailors and leave the recruits as low as possible.  That is where I put my Seaman to try to get additional speed.  He doesn't add much, though.  You can also put a repairman there and he will be effective.

Bobys,

    All of this information is in my SS Guide.  I just reorganized it so you could better see the info you want.

    For the delay of classing, here was a post by Haslam on the third page of the guide.  Its the most comprehensive info I have seen about it.

From Haslam:

Nice guide!!!

As a full dedicated Subdriver in Nelson server I learn that CREW IS EVERYTHING in sub life

It is possible to reach high level repair rates and 900 SD on IJN SS4, but it takes an open mind to re-think all sailor system lefting common aknolegment from NF community aside... Almost all it said about SS crew training, classing and management is wrong.

Skeletonize for example (a BO is not be there to adds to marking as in BB ships... he's there for adds to repair and restore... why reduce his ability then?) or why class a torpedoman to max torpedo ability if it is caped so soon? why not let him accumulates rep&res when he's Sailor IJN? It reduce final weight without less ab.

Resumen:
My IJN SS4 CREW
IJNSS4[BO] : @86 {IJN Sailor}L12-62>{IJN B.O.}------->>> I do not suggest this: just I was impatience

IJNSS4[S1] : @82 {IJN Support Sailor}L12-78>{IJN 2nd Sonarman}
IJNSS4[S2] : @86 {IJN Support Sailor}L12-51>{IJN 2nd Planesman]L52-81>{IJN Chief

IJNSS4[S3] : @79 Normal {IJN 1st Engineer}

IJNSS4[S5] : @79 Normal {IJN 1st Engineer}
