Just out of curiousity, what is it about the 3/70's that you do not like. I've used both the 3s and the 5s, and at any level gunner still prefer the 3's.

Maybe dual 6"DPs if u can fit them? Never tried it, but yeah really only 5"/38s probably Ds would work best

3" for flak spamming but short ranged. 5" medium range snipping power house.

I prefer 3" for raping bombers, nevermind the scouts. US AA doesn't have enough range to snipe scouts anyway.

I like to mix the 3"70 ds and the 5"38s mark29 becuase both have the 39" angles and fire off each other thus more shell output.
