Gnei playing tips

Hello everyone,
I recently got back into NF after a 4 year hiatus, and am having trouble getting back into the groove with my gneisenau. In the standard GB I find I am so short ranged and outclassed by all the BB5s that I am more or less relegated to providing AA coverage and mopping up smaller ships that rush the higher BBs on our side. I'll admit that when I first leveled my ship 4 years ago I did not have much of a grasp on how NF worked and as a result my crew isn't all rolled right for their postions (ie my front gunner has a 1 point reload and accuracy advantage over my rear one).
Anyways I was hoping someone could give me insight to good techniques and strategies for getting the most out of my gneisenau. I guess I should mention I'm running 14.96s duals, heavy HE and KM 40s for AA with no Armour.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

first Guns: use the 14.96 Dual L guns with light HE KM 40s for AA is good and makes grinding a lot easier
as Gnei the only thing that you can do is to wait for the right moment and rush in. You probably go 49konts which is very fast and makes you a difficult target. Either create/wait for blind spots, or do it when the BB5/4s are fightinh each other and are distracted. I recommend to do a short rush like, running in, doing 2-3 shots and run away again. The number of shots you do before running is depending on your OH time. The better you gunners are, the longer you can rush.
regarding your gunners: doesnt really matters at the end game. no matter which base, KM gunners always hit the cap. Are they boosted? If not contact me ingame, maybe i can help you.

Take a look at your support crew. You should aim at having more or less 4 engineers and 4 repairers.
Everything NiborGER said plus use 0.2" armor for the belt. It reduces torpedo damage by a massive ammount (almost half)

How are you getting to 4 engs and 4 reps? But yeah i forgot about the 0.2Belt. They are worth it. For Gnei(rotate your crew): 2Gunners 2AA-Gunners 3-4Engies 2Reps 0-1Scout For bissy: the AA isnt really worth it. Try to get your AA gunners a bit ahead on Gnei and use the t-slots for support. For H39: use 1-2AA-gunners, so they hit 115 when you hit BB6. Though even frontgun only AA on H39 is effective. Played that too. For BB5: 2Gunner 2AA-Gunner 4Engis 3Reps 1scout For BB6: 2Gunner 2AA-Gunner 5Engis 3Reps 1scout

Thanks for responces so far guys,
I took a look at my support crew, I have 1-Res 1-rep 1-eng at level(73-74) , then 1-rep(lvl39) and 1-eng(lvl36) , and a scout. Unfortunately once again i crafted my crew at a low level without any research into how the upper levels of NF work
as well I just switched to 14.96 L with light HE and added .2 belt,
This is good, hopefully I can start to get a few hits on some other BBs, I'm not a fan of taking up a BB spot in a game and getting damage of 1k because a DD or CL wandered too close.

Better try to sell the restorer. Its ok at low lvl but at high lvl he is nearly totally useless. Contact me ingame. Maybe i can help you a bit. edit: Furthermore, you better try to get you engis on same lvl as the ship. otherwise they agin a lot less exp. Furthermore i hope you use manual FCS

Good tips I will, I just played a few rounds, and wow! that extra distance is a huge difference, I am doing a lot better now and am able to assist the team way better. Thanks for the restore tip, ill see if I can unload him, but it sounds like they arent very valueable. And yes, I use Manual FCS, Auto annoys the hell out of me and is just so innefficent. Ill give you a msg in game when Im on next. Thanks for all the advice.

Since you already know how to AA, roll/buy the extra crew ( the engi's and repairers) and an extra BO. Then go and use AA to level the BO up the P-pro path. With the few days of event still left you might get the extra crew quite a bit up in level. If you do decently with AA, the XP in GB1 is quite obscene ( especially if your team scores a good amount of attack)
Rotate in your old support crew as the new crew reaches their level.

One option you can do and is what I usually do with BBs tier 1 to 3 is play mid and a bit back. Most CAs and low lvl BBs will go mid to avoid the high tier BB line fighting to get some attack. You can use Gnei's excellent range to your advantage. At that tier, with lights shells, you can range most ships of the same tier. I've gotten over 100k using this tactic, but a 50k at that tier can be cosidered good attack. Just keep them at range and you will be fine.

I think RN BB2s can range gnei due to having bugged gunsets but yeah staying back and even attacking BBs that might rush without scouting mid are good ideas for a BB2.
