First off, I'd like to say, I am not going to scream in this post about how NF sucks or how the lag and crashing issues ruin the game for me. Which they don't. Being an ameteur software developer myself, I know how hard it can be to write good, bug-free code while at the same time coping with users clamoring for MORE and MORE all the time. This is not a bug report post, it is for suggestions. Hats off to SDE for a superb game. I will continue to support it monetarily. :)
That said, there are a couple things that I think could be improved with the game.
Nuts-and-bolts wise:
1) I think it would be great to combine the hackshield updater and the ENFUNS Updater into one client. That way, I wouldn't have to wait for two bars to make their slothlike journey across my screen. Also, the hackshield updater seems to hang every now and then and I have to CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and restart the whole shebang.
2) Do we really have to read the EULA each and every time we start the game? I have seen MMOs with a really great system for this: the first time the game runs, the EULA shows up, but it doesn't let the user click accept until they have scrolled all the way to the bottom. After that, it doesn't show up at all and the user can get right to the game. I know the EULA is important, but we accepted the terms and conditions when we made our accounts. We don't have to do it again every time we log on.
Gameplay:
1) Make it slightly easier on fresh CV players. I know the first couple of every ship class are supposed to suck, but I'm talking mainly about fighters here. Even as a newly minted carrier, I shouldn't have to watch my fighters be completely ineffectual against any enemy bombers, and even get chewed up by scouts. I can remember as a new CV getting yelled at for not providing fighter cover. all I had were locals because those were the only planes worth a crap, and providing figher cover was useless anyway with the Hellcats I had to work with because they couldn't even touch bombers.
2) On that note: Many bombers had rear-facing armament. For example, the SBD Dauntless had two Browning .30 cal machine guns in a swivel mount in the rear of the cockpit. Planes that had rear-facing armament should have them in the game. Nothing huge, just something to provide a precious extra second or two of life.
3) STILL on the subject of DBs: they are not fighters, and any DB pilot in a right frame of mind would not stick around over hostile waters to pick a fight with an enemy scout plane. So please don't make them automatically fight things.
4) Let's cover a subject that I have seen lots of recently in the forums: Hedgehogs. While I agree with (almost) everyone that they are overpowered and should be nerfed, I propose another solution: make HHs do almost zilch damage against ships, but very high damage to submarines, require a semi-level to use them (say, around 40), and then make them only available in T group slots. Therefore, they will function as thery were intended to do in real life - as fantastic ASW. This has the side effect of reliving the glory days of the depth charge, which I havent seen in..................................... a long time.
5) Also a recent hot topic: Premium item refunds. While it is bad business to allow people to refund premiium item drops from in-game, it shouldn't be to allow partial refunds of items people have bought online. In-game dropped premium items, however, should be able to be sold for game credits. For example, I have almost 3,000 naval mines right now, but I am a bit short on credits. Since I haven't seen ANYONE using naval mines (just scout mines), I want to be able to sell them for credits to buy my next CV.
6) Speaking of the store, I have a few suggestions as to new items to add:
a) Levels. So if you have enough money, you can level your sailors without having to grind. Personally, I like levelgrinding in some instances, but after a while it gets boring. Especially if you only have one or two levels left until your next big thing. This would be useful for overcoming the frustration of grinding that one last level, when the anticipation of your next ship is so great that you just can't stand it anymore.
b) Credits/Points: So if you have enough cash, you can become rich in-game as well. Loads of other MMOs do this. Please let me buy credits. I'll leave he amount per dollar up to SDE.
7) More remodels. Yummmmm. :)
8) I'd like to see a couple more game modes:
a) Where you can be any level you want but you can only use low level ships. Lvl 120 Frigates FTW.
b) Like a great battle, but cruisers and destroyers can do things without having to be AA escorts. So the littler ships don't get screwed immediately and can actually help out in battle.
c) More "Missions", and more popular missions. I'm not sure most people have even played a lot of the missions. I'd like to see some historical re-enactments, say, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, where each side HAS to have the same types of ships that participated in battle, and on the same terrain of course, but I think it would be cool to see how the battles would play out. :)
9) I want a Turtle Ship. XD
Thank you for bearing through this post. Again, hats off to SDE for an incredible MMORPG/RTTS. None of these suggestions could come to fruition and I'd be happy as a clam. But please, give them a second thought, and I think I speak for all of us in the NF community when I say that there's always room for improvement.
