Like almost all of the lower tier USN BB's the ship comes alive with a few high level saliors added to the mix. If your below lvl 80 USN just sucks anyway, all ships, this game is the hardest on low level USN crews. No matter what BB your food. NF went through a long dry period when none of the events allowed you to get the NY, took me a long time to get one and I love it. They rock in the Skirmish rooms, just don't ever think your the big dog on the block in GB. NOTHING in the rules say that the first key hit has to be FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.
I put on a high level RLD gun crew, one high level ENG, and one REP, the rest are leveling saliors, The plus of the NY is its a tough bird, a little bulge armor goes a long way, it can take a beating from all but the biggest guns and get away to repair, the ONLY USN ship the can do this effectivly IMHO. The rest sacrifice speed, turrets, and bulge to be able to fit high level sailors. The 14" guns dial in nice and the reload is superfast, like 4 - 5 sec. I wish it had a little more range, but thats the whole USN class IMHO. It can clear the board at endgame of all the crippled ships just on shear volume of shots. Drive BW cv drivers nuts with its small hit box. Make a hobby out of chasing nooby montys, its fun seeing it from the other end....
I wish the T slots had more space, I just preferr the 5" x2 AA over the 3", but loading HH into these spots works well.
Between my 53 knot Guam and the Machine gun like NY its a toss up when it comes time to noob it up in a BB1
