Ok. Sometimes it does around 50k damage. Sometimes it distracts enemies, but do you know why the Kita/battle ratio grows significantly during events?
Enter battle ---> shoot torpedoes ---> die in the first minute ---> drink coffee / have a dinner / take a shover / read your e-mails etc... and get the bingos/dices or anything what we fighting for, with 10 minutes net playtime.

I think they saw it the same way. That's why KITA get ~90% less xp for the same ammount of damage than any normal ship, so we have the choice: Leeching or XP. In my oppinion that's a way of nerf and it works well. :)
