You can save yourself a boost and pain by using a Normal gun for AA till the Armory sailors reach lvl 61 at the very least.
62 in fact. Basically, once at chief DP, the crew growth is enough to offset the acc and reload penalty you got at AA gunners in term of true ability growth.
So at lvl 62, you class armory sailors -> all the way to chief in one go.
