Personally I don't like NWO either. Not because of boredom but because of those stupid islands around the map. It is extremely annoying to get stuck there. Hence when I host rooms I usually pick a borderless map.
The annoying thing about manually picking maps is that it takes a few seconds. During those seconds someone else can open another room quicker without you seeing it. And then it usually happens that people join the other room. If that is the case you end up sitting in your room alone, wondering if the server is just empty or if someone else opened a room that people joined. It's a frustrating feeling.
