  • Sanity check please - unmatched abilities

So I have a pair of soviet sailors that I'm delay-classing.

They are level 32, and have the normal national sailor abilities - torpedo and gun. The SN 2x 5.1" SD-2 guns seem to only require "SN gun" ability, not "SN heavy gun".  I made sure of that, and the nationalities match, too.

The problem is, I still get the unmatched ability warning. Am I missing something obvious?

Look where it says req ability, it says Gun, that means you need a Gunner classed sailor.

No, it means you need a sailor with the gun ability. Otherwise, neutral crews would never work. These sailors have used other SN guns already with the same listed ability requirement, which is what confuses me.

Edit: After some quick experimenting, it seems like guns that require "SN gun" ability work if the guns are level 14 or lower, but the higher level guns with the same ability requirement don't work.

For some reason, sailors with only GUN ability cannot use guns past, what was it, level 21? I encountered the same problem whist powerleveling my IJN SS BO.

Ah, so it's just an unpublished restriction?

Thanks for filling me in. I guess I need to put some actual gunners on my ship again and level less crew at a time.

First off... don't see the point in keeping a sailor like that as just a national at level 32.. if he is going to be torpedo why didn't you class him to arm sailor at lvl 12? However that is your perogative.

But, classing to arm sailor most likely will solve that problem......

They still cap torpedo reload pretty quick. If you're trimming your torpedo men then they don't actually take much more weight, and provide a lot more repair/restore.

yep yep ur Right needs Gnr classed Sailor not Armament Check Componets in game Info SN Guns

oh & BTW those are DP batteries better for AAing

You should read the whole thread, cause you're way off.

And yeah, those are Krasny Kavkaz (CA) T-slots in the screenshot. I use those for AA. Thanks for the heads up though.

@ OP

Did you test them out in game?
This could either be 1 of 3 things.

1. Game bug.
2. Ability required is not gun, but it shows gun due to SDE forgetting t change the image/code/etc.
3. You have a sailor that can't use this gun on the front T slot.

Classing to arm sailor wont fix it; for some reason sailor with "gun" cannot use lvl 21+ guns, ive tested it, it stops there. I think its cause the gun actually may require a different skill but you cannot see the skill (kind of like angus #2 point)
