  • boost sooner or later?

I just boosted crew for the first time (my IJN engineers). They are lvl 72.

Obviously, their ability grew by 20%, which is about 300 displayed ability (from ~1500 to ~1800). Similarly, their growth went from +25 to +29 (that's and extra +4).

Now, had I hypothetically boosted them at say, lvl 1, their growth would have gone up by 20% of +11, so by +2, and the 20% extra ability would have been fairly meaningless. given than they would have (hypothetically) had +2 per lvl, they would by now have 72*2 = 144 more displayed ability... HALF what they got from being boosted at lvl 72!

So to me it seems that the later you boost a crewman, the more benefit you get, because 20% of the accumulated ability will always be more than an earlier but much smaller growth boost, no?

Or am I missing something?

What's the best timing to boost to get the most benefit from it?

A Boost or Premium Sailor Item boost a sailors actual ability by 20%. The Growths shown on boosted sailors is for show and it doesn't actually increase by those amounts. This is visible when a sailor levels up and shows its true growth and unboosted ability.

2 Identical sailors boosted at different times such as at lvl 30 and lvl 90 will be identical every level from 90-120. A boost is just a constant 20% Ability boost of the sailors true abilities.

Yes you are missing something. You recognize the boost in growth and ability power yet came to the conclusion a sailor boosted at a lower level is worse.

Boost sooner is better yet NFNA has ability caps.
Doesn't matter if you boost it or not, it would be similar in the end lv (over 100+)
You will see great difference around 40~80

Think of it this way... a boosted sailor operates at 120% efficiency. It doesn't matter WHEN you boost him, from that point onward he's 120% of whatever he otherwise is.

But remember... it's Vets and Experts that give them their skill. If you boost a sailor with no vets, he'll be 120% of not much. The more vets you have, the more ability you have. So put vets on FIRST.

OK thanks everyone. If what's written is just for show and it's just +20% of what they would "normally" be than that makes sense to me now. Still a bit silly that what is shown isn't what you get but hey that's just another minor broken thing =P

also, by my calcs my conclusion is right. If the stats worked how I assumed (which of course I know now they don't), an eng boosted at lvl 1 would have ~1650 dislayed ability at lvl 72, and one boosted at lvl 72 would have ~1800. but I'll stop confusing you (and myself) =) so ignore that.

I'll just assume their true ability is being magically boosted by 20% no matter what the numbers say =P

Also Storm, surely it doesn't matter when you vet them, they'll just be 120% of not much without vets, and 120% of lots when properly vetted, no matter what order you do things in.
