  • Help on comparing laptops

I am looking at buying a new Acer laptop, under $450. I have found two that I could buy and I am
having trouble deciding which would be better to go with, due to the processor and RAM specs.
One has an AMD E-450 processor @1.65 GHz and 1 MB L2 Cache, but it comes standard with 4 GB of RAM.
The other one has an Intel dual-core processor P6200 @ 2.13 GHz and 3 MB cache, but only comes with 3 GB
of RAM.

My point is, I don't have money to buy the computer AND upgrade the RAM, so should I sacrifice clock
speed for an extra gig? And how much effect does the clock speed actually have?

I would use this for college applications (word processing, minor coding and casual gaming).
Thank you! Here's my comparison page link: https://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/co......RJW02.059

Get the intel one.
rams cheap and you wont notice a gig of ram difference unless you have a comparison and event then its minimal

Agree. The faster processor and larger cache means better performance, even losing a Gig of memory. As long as you're over 2gb you should be fine.

You should really look into some factory refurbs, u can find some pretty amazing deals for those. Two friends of mine bought the same refurb got themselves a AMD quad core 2.0ghz CPU, 6GB ram and a ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 for like $500CDN.

Honestly; Get an Intel chip. But spend the bit extra and try and get an i3 or i5 if possible (Sandybridge). Look at what onboard graphics it has and research it. NF should be fine; I run a 9400M Integrated on this and it runs fine (with the extra ram). NF is very ram heavy.

Ram is dirt cheap nowadays; I just upgraded mine to 8GB for £39
