Any idea which is a better ship? and should I use the coins to get the Maryland, or get somehting else - ie turtle ship?

Maryland is the better ship. You're carrying more guns on roughly the same displacement. Thats 12 x 16" shells as opposed to 9.

Maryland gives you a viable mini monty set up, but slightly less range and worse spread than the NC. More importantly Maryland has 7 support slots, same as that Iowa you are going for, so you would be better off getting it.

Good point, I forgot about the extra support!

Mark 6Ls have worst spread than the Mark 3Ls

I should know, I had both BB3s with 2 BOs per BB3, even used seamen to increase the Acc. Revision...

Even with 120 gunners and a seamen. My North Carolina can't land a full salvo on parked P24 sitting @ max range.

Sometimes their spread is good, sometimes it's absolutely awful. When one of my friends was playing my account he told me that he landed a full salvo on an H39 and oneshotted it.

OP: Run the Mary till you get to about 85-86. Your EXP will get noticeably worse after that. Switch to your North Carolina as you will get better EXP till 88, when it starts to decline as well. See this chart for details:

I've used a seamen for added acc revision on both the Sodak and Norcal for the last 3 years.
Mark 3 Ls spread has been much better. But since the BB34aa patch, when the Mark 6s were buffed and to today, the spread was horrible. Even with 120 gunners and a seamen. Just plain horrible. I've managed to get the Mark 3s to block with this setup. Mark 6s spray no matter what I add. I've even tried 3 seamen to still have shotgun spray spread.

Hence the ship names:
Sodak: USS 9 Gun Hell
NorCal: USS Shotgun

So I finally got Mary today. I was using the 16/45 Mk6 Ls on Sodak. Instead I put on the 16/50 Mk 3 Ns. What an immediate difference! The groups were as tight as I made them be. I can't see using Sodak with Mary available. There are not only more guns, but more accurate and an extra support slot. The higher level and extra AAW don't even come close to doing it justice.

16"/45 Mk6s are norcar guns. The "proper guns" for maryland are the 16"/50 mk3 Ls. I am not sure if using the Ns will be very effective (although N guns do usually have a better spread than Ls and you could go a bit faster maybe). Nonetheless, yes, the spread on maryland seems to be better than sodak using the same guns - but i'm convinced that its only because of the 12 shells landing together.

in short,

I'm not so sure about the spread being different because of the 9 - 12 gun difference. Its like with Sodak where the is a wide pattern, that moves, it was all together in a tight consistent group. The "L" model wasn't available for some reason. Only D and N. Either way, I think I'd rather the guns shoot a little bit faster. I dont have the range anyway, So i've been making a short rush and the firing the 12x16 fast a couple times then pulling back.
