- "ordinary" Gneisenau or EBB Gneisenau (1943)?
If we are talking "ordinary" Gneisenau, that one has slightly more range than Andrea Doria, but only six guns compared to the AD's ten. Both can mount AA, but the Gneisenau's is better (KM40s overall). The Gnei is much faster than the AD. The Gnei 1943 can mount Bismarck guns (2nd set 14.96" L) that give it a pip more range than the normal Gneisenau.

- at-level crew?
At-level, I'd say the AD experience is rather painful - getting outranged and not having the speed to make up for that. The ship comes into its own when your crew is way past the Gnei levels, in the 80s. Then the AD is agile and plays like a UK BB, as a brawler.

sorry for being vague but yes its for the ordinary Gneisenau and I can use the Bisy guns.

I dont think the normal Gnei can use Bissy guns.

I think what you need to know here is the fact that AD has more support slots (you can raise more sailors simultaneously) also the AD although it has not got the range of Gneis it is much better due to the size and because is more agile and fast than the Gneis.

Overall AD is much better than ordinary Gneis. Its a fun ship to play with and once you lvl up a bit you will be very happy with it.

I would agree with you if the player is an experienced one and knows how to play KM (which mostly keep them out of your range) and yes on 1v1 game gnei will win 90% of the time due to the range the 11" provide.

In a GB though things change. You have so many higher bbs running around that means you will not be as lucky. Also the AD is more agile and receives less damage (due to hitbox) which means it is a bit more forgiving.

Both ships are fun to play with but i would choose the AD over the Gnei due to support slots firstly and size.
