NSA spying on Microsoft Windows crash error reports

If you’ve used Microsoft Windows for any length of time, then a dialog box like this will be no stranger to you:

You may think that it’s harmless enough to click on the “Send Error Report” button and send details of the crash to Microsoft, but recent revelations about NSA surveillance underline that there are risks.

For instance, did you realise that by default Windows crash reports are sent unencrypted, potentially exposing information about the setup of your computers?

Indeed, according to a leaked presentation seen by Der Spiegel, the NSA’s TAO (Tailored Access Operations) division can be automatically notified whenever a targeted computer sends a crash report.

Good Point!

You seem to misunderstand the concept of whomever/whatever gets a bullseye painted on though.

"Anything" found in violation gets a target painted on them. The violation can be petty, political, financial, business, criminal, religious or some other "special interest" worthy of closer scrutiny.

The key here is to not be found in violation of the aforementioned issues, which DO have local, state, national or international laws attached to them and how their regulation is overseen.

For instance, a commercial venture becomes a minefield when the woefully inadequate intellectually-inclined are allowed to supervise/oversee those ventures. The entity's choice of activities can open the door to unwanted attention based on the obvious.

Radical Politics and issues of National Security most certainly spark the interest of the security services of various nations and each can claim a vested interest in any ongoing dialog. Now we circle back to the crash reports and how they tie in here.

You have to admit that to a certain extent, NavyField game instability has "opened" up this door  to a wide variety of interpretation without you knowing who will do the interpreting. Now you know that "someone" is checking things out.
