  • IJN SS5

So we finally have the long awaited IJN SS5 ...and yes - it can launch planes.

Some observations:

1.   It has 6 forward tubes - each hitting @ 24k =  144K/salvo - one shots here we come! - so it hits very very hard  -the splash damage is also impressive
2.   It can carry a lot of  torps   6 x 8 + 1
3.   There are no rear torps  - this limits ss vs ss action
4.    It is BIG and SLOW - so it makes a good target for other subs
5.    It is very tough and can take some hits and still come out swinging hard
6.    It has a lot of air, which makes up a little for the slow speed
7.    It has a beautiful decorative AA/HE gun which is almost useless.....although I did get a puff of smoke off a plane once.
8.    It has 7 support slots - so you could run 5 engies, wow - pity I dont have 5 ijn engies!?

now if we could just lose some of the exp nerf on subs..................

For me, SS5 Japanese is really pathetic !!!!! It should be an improvement of SS4, however:
1) there are 2 torpedo tubes in less
2) the speed in the base area decreased (21 vs. 23)
3) the base speed underwater is decreased (19 vs. 21)
4) the speed in OH on the surface is decreased (this depends on the engineers on board, I, with 2 engineers lvl 107, arriving at 29 knots, with the same crew on HEI go to 34 knots)
5) the speed is decreased under water OH (with the same crew, about 4-5 knots less)
Of course, if I increase the engineers gain a few knots in OH, but the speed remains the same base!!
6) It is increased in times of OH (but has also increased recharge of the torpedoes!)
7) ok, the torpedoes do more damage, the problem is that you get to the shooting range to throw and with this low speed is much more difficult
8) the planes are a joke: Which is the utility of 10 planes if for launch and load them I can be only on the surface?? When I'm in the battle I emerge to start the planes and then go back under water ?????
2 torpedo tubes on the back, that will be an improvement!!
In conclusion: in a good game I do 80/150k damage with SS4, less than half with SS5 and if I meet another sub, even at level 3, are always sunk ......
Can a 1 vs 1: Hei vs Kai Lou and let me know who win.......

Sub is too hard to play -- went back to SS4. Its so much more fun.

the truth is that the SUB 5 is weaker than SS4

If a new Tier of higher damage Torpedo bombers is introduced ( which is a must) then the ability to do ranged attacks might be useful. All the same, most SS5 will shrug of 3 SS Torps no problem.

I think they should have given the ability to take off 4 planes at a time and reduced the amount of planes to 8. 8 ijn TB torps will at least hurt an SS5.
