The people of the falklands are British Citizens, and they have been for decades.

Correction: the one who started colonies was British, the one who took that land by force and conquering was the british, argentina replied back by force by sending special forces in the invasion. I think if Simon Bolivar knew about it and didnt die in 1830 , the british wouldnt  be colonising this island. PS. im not argentinian. But i support them.

Hey... That doesn't make any sense. If Bolivar hadn't died in Santa Marta in 1830, he would've fought to keep the "Gran Colombia" running. He didn't have anything to do with the problems Argentina had, so please keep him out of this.

Im venezuelan dude, bolivar view was to keep our countries free of colonies, neither spain, great britains should have our lands as colonies.  Bolivar he didnt have to do anything, but if he was alive, he would of hear of the FIRST malvinas people to be freed of the invaders, the BRITISH. Bolivar would have free them as well. and at this point, if he done that, Malvina or foklands wouldnt belong neither to UK or Argentina, but a free sovereing nation or sovereing island, bolivar had the resources to get that done easily. Once again, Bolivar view was FREEDOM and not nations kept as colonies. and hey you said Gran colombia was between venezuela, colombia , ecuador and panama. but then, if we are falling in thoses termns, then bolivar had nothing to do with peru and bolivia, but he gave them freedom from the conquistadores, he would of have the same thing for folkland islands.

Just to let you know Humberto.

The Falklands were colonised by the Brits before the Rep. of Argentina even existed.

The Falklands have never been an Argentinian 'territory.'

Just because it is geologically close, does not give them any right to it... that's like Britain saying, well...France is next door to us so it must be part of our territory. Makes absolutely no sense.

Stop spouting rubbish.

You obviously are ignorant of history or study history books with bad intentions.
The British invaded the islands in 1833, casting the governor of the islands Vernet and its residents, replacing its people with english settlers.
Like it or not, the islands are Argentine and eventually return them to us, as they did with Hong Kong, and also return the other 9 colonies around the world have, history has shown that no empire lasts 1000 years.

Bye.

If you want them so bad then your super elite fleet and your modernized army that has a huge military budget to re-take them.

OH WAIT.

United Kingdom - £57,424,000,000  = 2.7% of GDP.

Argentina - 3,179,000,000 - 1.0% of GDP.

It all boils down to what THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE ON THE ISLANDS WANT and they want to remain BRITISH.

Most modern, free thinking countries support the right to self determination. The Islanders want to be British.

If they wanted to be independent they would have been granted thier independence long ago, the UK are even giving higher levels of self determination to N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales, so you can bet your bottom dollar that if the Malvinas wanted to be independant OR part of Argentina then they would be by now.

At one time of another the British Empire controled large portions of the world, nearly all those contry's are now independent. Some, like the US, gained independence by force, but most, after the second world war, where given it during decolonisation, ask yourself why they would hold onto a collection of insignificant islands of the coast of south america if the people wanted it any other way?

Fact is, defending the Falklands is a massive inconvenience to the UK on the other side of the world, but they do so because it's the right thing to do. I look at it the same way as if a foreign contry invaded my home town of Stafford, i would want the government to move heaven and earth to help me and all people under the governance of the UK deserve the same thing.

Interestingly thing is, if the Falklands had been given there independence, Argentina would probally still be pushing thier claim and if they invaded they would be facing a much larger coalition to kick them out than just the UK.  Not many contrys would support the UK in defending an old colonial possesion. BUT alot of contrys would be willing to help a small, independant, english speaking contry against it's much larger neighbour wanting to oppress them. All of the neutrals should look at it this way and support peoples right to self determination.

The Argentinians did themselves no favours by forcing thier culture on the Islanders during the short time they where in control. They changed the school system, changed the language, they even made people drive on the other side of the road ffs. This mean's the Islanders will never want to be part of Argentina and as such the British will never allow it.

Unfortunately for all, this sabre rattling on the part of Argentina is just serving to rally the people of the UK in support of the goverment, who are extreamly unpopular, in favour of defending the Islands.
