  • CV role in GB

OK, so I just want to start by saying I know CV is supposed to have a supporting role and give vision. I am aware of all the arguments over "noob" CVs causing battle losses and I won't get into that. I'm a BB player and I don't assume I can tell a CV what to do. If my team loses I blame nobody.

However, I noticed a few games I played today some very well played CVs doing a lot of DB-ing and winning the game by taking out key BBs at key times. What also surprised me is we had good vision because the bombers were "scouting" while looking for a target and they took out the other team CVs early so they had less scouting and less air cover.

What I want to ask you, is this not an acceptable way to play CV if you are good enough to do it? Maybe this was an isolated case but why is it that CVs are just expected to spam fighters when they can clearly impact a battle in other ways, sometimes quite dramatically (e.g. provide vision with bombers then do some damage, then leave the empty bombers on scouting duty)? Think if one team gets a CV bombed before the BB lines are even properly engaged, that's a clear advantage. Most BBs don't AW so a same tier CV should be able to cripple them in one good strike, no?

I put 11 TBs square broadside into a Lion II. He smoked for about 10 seconds and was back to 100%.

I don't understand how that has anything to do with what I typed.

Do what you want but you better be effective at it. No matter how good you are at what you do just remember these points.

-Be prepared to be over run by fighters if you are playing attack CV and have no support from your teammates.
-If you play bomber only CV4+ you are a selfish SOB and will be stacked against and will probably fail.
-Be prepared to lose after dominating with your fighters and keeping your flank safe from bombers and blinding the enemy. This play style is dependent on your team's ability to use your support.
-If you scout for your team you will probably lose and you will only be contributing of the laziness of BB players and their inability to use the lost art of scouting. Most BBs wont even shoot AA ships while you are scouting for them.

So uh...

Scouting is wrong
Bombing is wrong
Everything is wrong!

CVS ARE WRONG. DON'T USE THEM.

Also if you lose in an attack cv you are a pretty bad player

It just takes a FW CV5 to decide what he wants to do in a battle:

(a) make the enemy's BW life miserable and just harrass his bombers, making him a non factor. You'll probably lose because you won't be able to scout/blind enemy while making the BW cry.

(b) scout, kill enemy scouts and watch your bbs whine to you about cover.

(c) try to do both and probably fail epically.

Personally I prefer (a), cause I know BWs will RAGE when you dont let them do anything, and some of them will just pull the plug and act as if never happened. Of course you will jeopardize your team's chances of winning, but if you play for the lols, thats the way to go.

Edit: if you can do (c) well enough, then you are a good cv player.
