  • CV role in GB

OK, so I just want to start by saying I know CV is supposed to have a supporting role and give vision. I am aware of all the arguments over "noob" CVs causing battle losses and I won't get into that. I'm a BB player and I don't assume I can tell a CV what to do. If my team loses I blame nobody.

However, I noticed a few games I played today some very well played CVs doing a lot of DB-ing and winning the game by taking out key BBs at key times. What also surprised me is we had good vision because the bombers were "scouting" while looking for a target and they took out the other team CVs early so they had less scouting and less air cover.

What I want to ask you, is this not an acceptable way to play CV if you are good enough to do it? Maybe this was an isolated case but why is it that CVs are just expected to spam fighters when they can clearly impact a battle in other ways, sometimes quite dramatically (e.g. provide vision with bombers then do some damage, then leave the empty bombers on scouting duty)? Think if one team gets a CV bombed before the BB lines are even properly engaged, that's a clear advantage. Most BBs don't AW so a same tier CV should be able to cripple them in one good strike, no?

well heres how I play my cv:

atm Im stuck in a cv3 (graf zep 1) and currently i use 4 ftrs, and 2 dbs, (will be +1tb and +1 ftr when i get to europa). I reserve 3 of the ftrs to keep 2 t3 ftrs over the enemy at all times. If im up against a t4 cv, I cannot keep it up and warn my team, so some other cv will help me out (hopefully). the other ftr and 2 dbs I keep in constant rotation launching 6 dbs X2 then a wave of 6 ftrs

As a PCV yesterday, we had a great battle (no actually it was a great battle in a GB room), where there was 3 vs 4 CV's left alive at the end of the game. It was intense, where each others fighters were nullifying one another for most of the game. There was the usual complaining at times by "other players" about the need for sight. I carry 2 bombers/ 1 scout or 2 scouts/1 bomber, the rest fighters. This was a close game and no matter how hard I/we tried to keep the "sky lit" people will still complain. The role of the CV player is first and foremost to have fun playing this game. I am a BB player and decided to try CV's not too long ago and can now understand why (when there are no CV events) people just can't be bothered to play CV. I am probably slightly off topic but that is just my opinion.

there's no roles in a GB. Everyone plays how they want to.

this is the most effective tactics (scouting bitch) but one of the harder to control and need most skill in compare with FW setup. Little bit less effective is FW which is mostly used in HAs/FL/FB because is much more easy...
I like fighter+scout combination on CVs (not necessary T5 scout, It works fine with lower tier scouts too).

Something that I haven't seen mentioned yet is what matters - end results

- If I FW and knock down over 10k worth of planes I get between 20-35k xp (loss/win)

- If I BW and kill 70k worth of ships I get between 20-35k xp (loss/win)

- If I just scout and avoid combat to make bitchy BBs happy I get 10-18 k xp (loss/win)

Therefore, I have no vested in interest in scouting for your BBs. I get no enjoyment out of flying in circles and I get S--- for a reward. AND its not like I even get so much of a thank you for doing it. SO, I will

1) send the red team's planes down in flames
2) drop bombs on the red teams ships
3) let players that say stupid things like "cvs fail" or "scout north" know that I won't change my style of play

If I do these first two things properly, it will help the lazy, bitchy BB players to use a scout without being shot down so easily.

P.S. BB players you have to change your scout from the default height while its near AA ships and learn to move it from time to time. Also you can feel free to hit the " ` " key to launch the scout.

If you scout all game for your team and you win, it's at least 1/1000 games for a person to thank you for it. If you scout all game for your team and you lose you are blamed for everything that caused for the losing.

Exactly. CV players need to be more vocal. Lets not just let them go off every time a battle is lost. Call them out!
