This might sound a bit rude, but, Argentina lost the war. There's nothing you can do about it. The General Belgrano is sunk, and there's nothing you can do about it. The extreme nationalism is always bad. Everything is bad, if taken to the extreme, of course. But, holding to a burning stake, such as the Falkand islands issue and waving it around as a flag, is just stupid. It seems to me that you guys (Argentina) want the islands back because it would boost the morale of the country in a riddiculous way, but there are no real arguments that'll give Argentina the right to annex (or control or whatever you want) the Falkands.

The fact that the UK has sent or will send a war ship isn't something purely aggressive, Argentina striked first in the past, and, even though the Argentinian president has said that there will be no attempt to take over the islands with violence, you never know.

I'm not Argnetinian or British, I'm Colombian, and I'm no pro-UK or anything.

Edit: Changing the name of a place doesn't make it yours. And, since Argentina doesn't own the Falkands, they can't ask for the name to be changed. You can call it what ever you want, but the official name will be decided by it's owner.

Everything I know from the subject I learned it in school, they always said that the Malvinas are ours, so we see them that way.
Personally it won't change my life if the islands are officially argentinian or british. I'd like to see them officially argentinian though...
I'd rather see the kids going to school and not going into delinquency and drugs in the streets and their parents working than the islands officially argentinian.

Interesting topic. The UK was there first, granted there were periods when they did not have a full time colony there. Argentina's whole claim is that they were there for a few years before the Royal Navy discovered them there and kicked them out. Thats like you go on vacation and come home to find that some bums built a shack on the far part of your back lawn and its ok becuase you weren't there when they built it. UK was there first, so 1 point for them.

Between them being kicked in 1833 and the invasion in 1982 is almost 150 years. If it were so important or critical, 150 years passing is just unrealistic. The intelligent person's statute of limitations had long passed on that. After all, not a single person that lost something in 1833 was around to make a claim. 1 point for the UK.

Finally after 150 years Argentina goes to war and loses. The UK does the right thing and ends the war without expanding it further into the mainland. Also, they release all the prisoners they took. Argentina meanwhile refuses to make any consessions after starting a pointless war against an important US ally in the midest of the cold war with the USSR that dragged the UK's important ASW designed fleet and best land units as far as they humanly could go from any relevant theater of war. To the winner goes the spoils and also a bonus for being the rational party +2 for the UK.

Three times the UK offered to take the claim to mediation in the international court at the Hague and all three times Argentina declined. Rather odd? Another point for the UK, after all if Argentina is right, why not go to mediation and win?

Finally, and worst of all, Argentina is sparking claims all over again. Its now been almost 200 years, they've lost a war, declined arbitration 3 times. If all this isn't bad enough, in part of their claim, they are stating that part of Antartica is theirs. Its been well established that Antartica shouldn't belong to anyone country and the rest of the world has agreed to that... all except Argentina. I find that rather disgusting and selfish (the antartica piece) and since that was part of the latest round of claims and is totally irrational, another point for the UK.

So I score this 6-1 for the UK. The one point going to Argentina is because some homeless vagrants built a shack in the back yard while no one was home.

I would like to note that although my views on this issue lean heavily to the UK, I do respect the Argentine armed forces, especially the Air Force, and do not look down on the country or the people. I even have a friend from Argentina and I think highly of their country. I just do not agree with any of this "malvinas" talk in any way or form.

What happened to the right of self-determination? The islanders who have inhabited the Falklands for the last 150 years choose to be British. If they suddenly decided to be Argentinan or for arguments sake Japanese, the British governement would honour their choice. (probably alot of head scratching as to why they changed their minds).

Still, UK goverment key argument is that the natives vote to be British and so British the islands remain.

Hi,

Just think about this, where would the world be if every country decided to make claims on every piece of land it (claimed) it owned 150 years ago.
But why stop at 150 years, unless of course that just happens to fit the exact time scale for the Falklands/Malvinas.
Let's go back further say 200, 300 or 500 years.

Um 500 years , yes, it's a nice round number.

Just suppose Spain (Peru, Paraguay and Chile could also claim ownership) claimed Argentina tomorrow, Who should "own" Argentina then, the indiginous population or the European invaders?
OK let's vote on it,... hang on who votes? the people who live there now (the Argentinians, so called) or the Spanish. Obviously the Argentinians should, and Spain should have nothing to do with it.

I hope you get my point.

All the recent sabre rattling are wild accusations like the presidents speech about the UK trying to militarize the Falklands. Erm, hello there's a reason for that. You invaded the last time we barely had a force there.

All this arguing is pointless without military power backing our claims. The armed forces are almost in freefall since the war, we will be lucky if the Air Force continues to exist in 5 years. We also dismissed the idea of build nuclear weapons back in the 80's, so we got nothing.

I say to our government, cut all the bullshit, they are just humans, just play by their rules, work hard to build a nice country and this whole situation will resolve itself, in time. Our country is beautiful: beautiful landscapes, beautiful women, delicious food, the university is free, health care is free, and so on. Unfortunately, we are ruled by f******** a******** supported by several million of idiots, to say the least. One day, earth time I hope, we will be like Germany or France, and naturally, they will join us, one way or another.

RADB said something important about the school, there we learn that the islands belong to us. That's the way things go. Don't like it? don't care. Some people learn in childhood that God exists, and love him to death, we learn about Malvinas and we want them back. Tbh, all those history lessons cause me headaches, I personally like the distance argument, because it's the simpliest, and it's self explanatory....so, GTFO FROM MY ISLANDS. I want another place to go on vacation without having to leave the country.

Sindher :

the reason is not because you made this post, if it is a simple provocation or a simple question.
You should know that it is an issue on a recent war (30 years ago), and that should be taken with respect as there have been many deaths on both sides, respect for the fallen in battle and respect for their family, is not appropriate to your post in a forum regarding a game, please be aware of the situation here involved and take action that matches its post.
