  • Medic+seaman=?

Gump
so I wasn't sure what the answer was, and my search's on forums were crap. I am
one those types who likes a definitive answer to a question from someone who
knows (i.e. the mods and what not).

so I asked this question (via contact support which mods have told to use as an
outlet to ask questions)

--------

Is this a true statement?

"According to Gruven when he was head of ONF It is
either Medic or Seaman, the Seaman will
cancel out the Medic. Seaman have a slight medical
ability but nothing like a real Medic
has"

saw this in a post and want to verify this.

1. Do medic and seaman cancel each other out?

-------------------------------

This is the answer I got: Seaman does not have the medical ability. Once you
change your sailor to medic, then the medical ability
appears.

--------------

ok.. so the dude obviously didn't read the entire question, so I am going to post
this here in the hopes I can get a better answer.

Gump,

This has been debated and tested still difficulty figuring it out. I will separate it accordingly.

Based on patches:
1. Medics work on allied nations of course.
2. Medic now stack meaning less crew death.

Based on notes of mods and testing:
1. Medics are specialized Seaman - Meaning they are seaman just specialized in crew losses.
2. However due to specialization there other abilities are so low they are basically muted due to
the ability being only in the hundreds not thousands.

Extra note: The medic what he does is when an Officer dies he makes an expert on the RCT
refill and when an expert dies he makes an expert on RCT refill. Now lately I've noticed it
sometimes fails to work but that's how he actually works. Also the crew hit for damage in
game is approximately 1/2 the actual crew death so 2 officers, 4 experts, 8 rookies converts
with medic to 1 officer, 2 experts, 4 rookies in crew death. In harbor the officer death should
convert upon RCT click to 1 officer to 1 expert, the 2 experts convert to 2 experts, 4 rookies
being 4 rookies. So ya you lose 1 officer instead of 2 without medic and you trade the officer
death for an expert, the rest being equally return to you.

Conclusion is basically a Medic is like using an Engineer for a Repairer ya he works with the plus
stat he has but at a much lesser rate. So what I belive ONF concluded was it seems very
pointless to use a medic, now if I recall ONF had no crew death so you can see the point of not
using it. This ability being turned off could mean the medic was disabled as well in the code.
So if you value your crew and don't like losing vets/exp/rct use one if that doesn't
bother you fill the slot with something more useful. I wouldn't worry about the cancelling affect
I've not seen my 120 FPS die any fast or slower having a medic on the ship with seaman or not
with IJN/US vs other 120 FPS.

Just a quick point the medic is interchangable on allied and axis ships,
so a US medic works fully on a UK ship, KM on IJN...

meaning their abilities will not be as effective as the abilities of sailors that are the
same nation as the ship they are used on."

Except for the medic... Right?

You miss my point. Its quite obvious the statement is false leading me to believe the GMs
are not the most reliable source for this type of information. I mean someone from ONF2
who would beable to confirm Gruven's statement.

"According to the GMs sailors not of the same nation as the ship they are on get an exp
penalty..."

This is false. I have been leveling KM, UK, IJN, and MN sailors on my US ships, and have
never received an EXP penalty on any of these sailors. (I know this because I was also
leveling US sailors that were only +-1/2 levels from the other nations sailors, and they
were all receiving the same EXP). They DO, however, receive an Effectiveness penalty,
meaning their abilities will not be as effective as the abilities of sailors that are the
same nation as the ship they are used on. From what I remember reading in Beta,
way-back-when lol, Allied/Axis sailors receive 66% ability effectiveness on their
war-mates (US & UK/IJN & KM), and receive only 50% ability effectiveness on their
war-enemies (US & KM/UK & IJN/US & IJN/UK & KM).

Unfortunately I don't know where SDE stands on implementing these reductions for MN and
SN, and soon to be IN.

Back on Topic

I am glad to hear from a GM that Medics and Seaman don't cancel each other since I use
both on my CV. And believe me, Medics do work. Before the Vet-death removal on planes, my
Medic was saving a lot of vets even at level 80- :-D. I tested this by going into a room
without him, then going into the next room with him, and engaging the enemy fighters
whenever possible in both rooms. Vet death dropped by about 80% in the room with him on
(which led to only losing 2-4 Vets instead of 10-20 vets).

I'm not from ONF, but I don't think they get an XP penalty, just an effectiveness
penalty

According to the GMs sailors not of the same nation as the ship they are on get an exp

Maybe someone from ONF2 can comment on this topic.

RING IT IN FELLAS THE ANSWER IS HERE!!

Both medic and seaman work even if those sailors are in
the same ship. There is not any penalty even though the
player put both sailors in the same ship.

Thank you
