  • Meeting Actions - *Update 2*

Actions from the Fleet Leader meeting on 1st December:

1.  Randy will request a specific update on the issue of HA:

-  Core HA update and crashing issues.

-  HA Battle Mode.

-  Timeline and place in priorities.

*In progress*

*Update 2 - Very grateful for the reporting of HA bugs, please keep those coming in.  The Devs are working to replicate those in testing to then continue working on solutions.  There have been some changes introduced over the last couple of patches so any news on how HA is working would be welcomed on tickets.*

2.  We will question SDE about the Achievement System that was on the original work plan for 2012.  Is it still on the list or has it been removed, if still an aspiration what is happening with it?

*Update 2 - Investigation showed that the introduction of a meaningful achievement system within the current game engine would be a major project and so it was put on hold for the time being whilst other work is done.  It may get reserected later.*

3.  We will explore the possibility of a Poll system that pops-up at the Login page (only once per account for each Poll) to encourage greater participation in Polls.

*Being considered*

4.  When the new Fleet Leader forum opens we will discuss topics for meaningful, constructive, Polls.

*Waiting for Fleet Leader forum area in new construct - second priority after Amazon project*

5.  The Fleet Leader forum area is being worked on, but we will get an estimate as to when it may appear.

*No2 priority to Amazon - latest estimate is start of Feb 13"

6.  The new Fleet Leader area will be permission based rather than automatically linked to account status.  As such we will be able to consider cases for specific access beyond pure Fleet Leaders or Fleet Accounts if there is tangible benefit, eg some of the Testers on a case-by-case basis.

*As above*

7.  Trainworld content is useful, but falling behind recent changes as it is not a SDE resource and very much reliant on a single person.  Need to explore whether the asset can be incorporated to NF.com and kept upto date or elements of it replicated on the core site.

*Unfortunately SDE cannot take over the updating or content of trainworld, which is privately owned/operated/updated and thereby reliant on that person*

8.  Update '/' commands in-game and in the guides.  Anyone with input to that please forward to Head Moderator who will request the update.

*Passed to Devs - thank you for inputs*

9.  Update and expand game guides.  We intend to set work going on this with the revised Fleet Leader forum area (that will be read to all, write for Fleet Leaders).

*Some background work started on this (thanks to Lj and Darkfrost) - considering a way to get wider involvement ahead of FL area as well*

10.  Explore whether the Test Server can be same loading as main game but then a branch option from the Login page to save having to use a separate client.  There was a similar option in the past, can it be done again?

*Question asked - Waiting on response*

*Update 2 - although this was possible a few years ago for a short time, unfortunately it is not technically possible with today's version*

11.  Forum Rules and Server Rules review, plus application of rules.  We will open these discussions in the revised Fleet Leader area.

*Waiting on FL area - could be an agenda item for Fleet Summit?*

12.  Randy will establish an issues update thread that he will endeavour to update weekly on any progress across a range of issues and questions so we can attempt to better track and communicate where we are on developments, timeframes and priorities.

13.  We will consult SDE about producing a 'public' version of the Moderator Manual so players can better understand how TeamNF is constructed, how it works and its accountability, and the processes for complaint.

*Draft sent to SDE for consideration*

*Update 2 - Draft approved.  Should appear as a pdf on the Download > Manual > Public Mod Manual  link in the near future*

===================

On a side note, Randy talked about advertisement of the game through Amazon to attract new players and linkages with them on item payment.  Hopefully there will be more news on this in the near future.

A couple of things that have come up from the Newsletter:-

1) NF Academy Event

Starts in 2 days; Why wasn't this announced sooner? Where is this promised communication? If they fully annouced it a week before, so many problems can be avoided (unlike last event) and it helps ease the support work for TNF during the event. There also needs to be a page on the website with FULL details of the event so people can prepare for it. Some nice idea's in the event itself, if they are done right. Can't really give a proper conclusion without full information, which hasn't been given. We were promised communication, with poor event communication being specified as an example in the FL meeting with Vick and Randy agreeing; Why isn't this being given?

2) "Our team has been working on integrating NF into Amazon's Free-to-play marketplace, providing a new fleet leader forum, and improving HA. Please stay tuned for news on these and other upcoming projects and developments".

As seen in this thread, we have been waiting for updates since December 1st. All we have been told is that it will come around mid feb (13th), and no new news. We have been begging for HA work done since it was originally taken out; It was input in October 2006 (I think, please can someone find the original date). It was also taken out for a year for "work" but nothing was done. The only thing done has been the new harbours (which was recent), which were bugged when implemented. Why has there been no work done on in HA since its release?

We have been without a fleet leader forum for 2 months approx, with no real updates. Why wasn't the old one kept in place with stricter more active moderation?

You keep making the same promises, and breaking them.

Is it just me or are we expecting way too much from SDE? Do we really believe this is a game worthy of allocating more time and effort into? I think there's a lot more going on then we realise. It's more than likely a fairly small blip on the radar.
A dying game is a dying game. People have moved onto newer better games.
Trying to fix all these problems seems pointless at this point. There's just too many to begin with.
Every month less and less people are playing. Even after the merge the decline has been rapid.
We can all point the finger at everyone else but quite simply the game is old.... outdated... unpopular... it goes on.

It's all rather sad to me as I do really enjoy playing Navyfail but I'm beginning to see why it's going the way it is.

This being said I do appreciate all the work you guys have and are doing to make this game better. It must be tough putting up with all our nagging. Keep it up! Who knows... I'd love to be proven wrong.

Is it expecting too much for HA to have been worked on in 7 years?

Is it expecting too much for the crashing issues to be fixed in 7 years?

Is it expecting too much to either create a new fleet leader forum or put in the old one that has been gone for 2 months?

Is it expecting too much to have the event clarified beforehand?

Is it expecting too much for the achievement system to be put in place when it was announced at the start of 2012?

Is it expecting too much to have TNF/SDE communicate?

Is it expecting too much to have TNF/SDE listen to the community?

Is it expecting too much to have a TNF written guide to TNF policy posted on the website that has already been approved by SDE?

Is it expecting too much to have serial cheats banned and stay banned?

Is it expecting too much to have a public review on forum rules and server rules?

Is it expecting too much to have community known updates when a rule is changed (unlike the ninja 3rd party forum rule?)

Is it expecting too much to have moderators online ingame and on the forums? (Credit though, they are recruiting)

Is it expecting too much to have TNF/SDE answering questions in threads like these, rather than ignoring them/leaving them to fester? Maybe a post saying "I don't know the answers so I've passed these on to the dev's" if they don't know. If they do know and can't say, say that. If they do know and can say, answer the damned questions.

Is it expecting too much for the dev's to answer questions rather than the usual "We have passed this on to the dev's" and then we hear nothing for years.

Is it expecting too much to have proper support ticket answers and competant GM's? I had one GM completely flat out deny to a fleetmate of mine that his account had been archived for inactivity; as soon as another GM looked at it - Randy - it was sorted ASAP, and turns out the other one had been wrong. This is just one incident from many.

Is it expecting too much for SDE to have at least one GM online 24 hours a day (as long as a competant GM is online with a direct line to the dev's, obviously doesn't have to be the same person 24 hours a day)

Is it expecting too much for SDE to have a dev available 24 hours a day; as above

Is it expecting too much for SDE to be able to react to server crashes within the hour?

Is it expecting too much for there to be a clear avenue for appeals against Mod/GM decisions? There have been players that have been permabanned having not broken a rule or done anything wrong.

Is it expecting too much for development on help for new players (missions/guides/better starter packs/better rolling system)? All of which have been asked for YEARS.

Is it expecting too much for TNF to represent the community and keep the flow of communication between the GM's/Dev's and the community?

Is it expecting too much for SDE to implement an export of rankings/HOF data, that a player has created on a 3rd party website in a small amount of time (but at expense to himself)?

Is it expecting too much for old bugs to be fixed that have been broken for years?

Is it expecting&nbs

Some personal answers for you Lj:

Is it expecting too much for HA to have been worked on in 7 years?  **When it is set against competing priorities at a higher level then perhaps Yes.**

Is it expecting too much for the crashing issues to be fixed in 7 years?  **Significant improvements made on that**

Is it expecting too much to either create a new fleet leader forum or put in the old one that has been gone for 2 months?  **Yes, a portion of the Fleet Leaders ruined the old one and SDE drew a very hard line under it.  I have spent a lot of time convincing them to return any form of Fleet Leader area.  They have agreed, but it is not as high a priority as the Amazon piece.  We have advised this more than a couple of times now.**

Is it expecting too much to have the event clarified beforehand?**The NFNA plan was for the event to start later with more of a gap between the Newsletter and the event start date.  This was changed above NFNA.  It happens**

Is it expecting too much for the achievement system to be put in place when it was announced at the start of 2012? **Yes it is too much to expect as we have already answered it is not happening in this current game engine**.

Is it expecting too much to have TNF/SDE communicate?  **We have been but as the above answers show you simply then try asking again in a different way**

Is it expecting too much to have TNF/SDE listen to the community?  **Numerous changes have been implemented through player suggestions and there is no reason why that will not continue**

Is it expecting too much to have a TNF written guide to TNF policy posted on the website that has already been approved by SDE?  **It will appear with the New Fleet Leader area as we have already said**

Is it expecting too much to have serial cheats banned and stay banned?  ** In the right circumstances and when SDE believe the lesson has been properly learnt such that a second chance is appropriate then it might well be too much to expect that.**

Is it expecting too much to have a public review on forum rules and server rules?  ** We said we will discuss this in the new Fleet Leader area and we will - again already answered**

Is it expecting too much to have community known updates when a rule is changed (unlike the ninja 3rd party forum rule?)  **That rule has existed since I have been a Moderator so 6 years at least**

Is it expecting too much to have moderators online ingame and on the forums? (Credit though, they are recruiting)  **I am here and generally available in-game between 80 and 100 hours a month.  The other Moderators are checked monthly for activity levels and appropriate action taken when the required standard is not being met.  Other Moderators also answer in the forums as and when required.  There is also the support ticket system for those times when a member of TeamNF is not instantly available**

**Randy answers questions and provides updates when he has them**

Is it expecting too much for the dev's to answer questions rather than the usual "We have passed this on to the dev's" and then we hear nothing for years.  **Yes it is too much to expect**

**GMs suffer from the human condition the same as the rest of us.**

Is it expecting too much for SDE to have at least one GM online 24 hours a day (as long as a competant GM is online with a direct line to the dev's, obviously doesn't have to be the same person 24 hours a day)  **Yes that is way too much to expect**

Is it expecting too much for SDE to have a dev available 24 hours a day; as above  **Yes too much**

Is it expecting too much for SDE to be able to react to server crashes within the hour? **Depends when it happens, but certainly too much to expect that 24 hrs a day**

Is it expecting too much for there to be a clear avenue for appeals against Mod/GM decisions? There have been players that have been permabanned having not broken a rule or done anything wrong. **There is a clear appeals process**
