An hour of rolling is no problem, 50 rolls after every battle and you have a great base crew in no time.
What's cruel is only discovering how stats work and that your fail +9 crew (or better yet crew that looked good but is actually broken, like +8 reload / +12 AA or +12 aircraft / +7 bomber) is worthless after wasting days grinding. Now you have to go drive a worthless DD1 again?
Some of my now high level sailors are classed late by 2-3 levels because in 2006 or whenever it was I started them the game was setup so being a fail DD1 in blitz meant getting XP much faster than points. Noobs had to beg for points - which were worthless past CL level as there were no 20 million point BB6s - just to class their sailors.
Rolling a few days to get a good crew is fine but getting stuck with junk because you didn't know better when you started is a typical SDE trick to discourage new players.
And noobs can't make money rolling anymore because SDE won't let you trade yet. Another trick to keep new players away.
