  • Okay, it's time to replace the hamsters....

Yup, it's that time again.... the current hamsters appear to be on their very last wind.

Seriously, I'm getting 15-20 second lag spikes, warping 6+ inches at a time. It's damn
near impossible to play under those circumstances. And I know I'm not the only one
experiencing this.

SDE, please retire the current hamsters and replace them with fresh ones. The slow economy
is no excuse; hamsters cost, what, $5 each?

I really doubt whether you would get a download mirror that allowed you to have that speed.

Also, I believe the fastest internet connection is this...

40 gigabit...

once more: your speed ISN'T the issue.

here's my speed test:

i went from my state, Arizona, to Japan, with great internet speed, as indicated.

it's not my connection. ITS THE SERVER! i don't lag on other games, only here.

t1 is only 1.544Mbps with rr in ny is almost x5's that on the download. Your up load is
only going to be somewhere around 512kbps to 768kbps.

Considering that if you have more than one pc...your connection is divided by the amount
of pc's you have pending on your router. Not to mention the decay in speed you receive
with firewalls in play.

Now with my provider I have 20mbps (that's throttled between 20-36mbps avrg about 29mbps)
:D with 1.5 mbps upload

I still get lag periodically. Not from my isp...I work there i know...not from the game
server...that i can check...but usually lag is a combination of multiple factors...

1. the path between you and the server is never constant as we don't live in a socialist
environment. In most cases you'll hit over 20 different providers of internet before your
request reaches its destination and vice versus. Any one of them could and usually do
have issues where your request is rerouted and delay or high ping times occur.

2. Even though this game is low on graphic quality versus majority of the games out
there...there's many sprites and actions going on in the screen where your pc has to
render ( im not a graphics arts specialist but from my experiences in other mmo's looking
straight down frees up lag even if there's over 500 toons in a specified area)

3. and sometimes the server needs to get rebooted to free up cache garbage

4. and sometimes your pc and your home network needs to be rebooted to free up cache garbage

We do have a troubleshooting tips on speed and lag in our technical support section, i
urge everyone that complains about constant lag to visit

http://www.navyfield.com/board/view.asp?Num=46030&Sort=E09

before getting +10 just to blame the servers that may or may not be the issue.

Maybe to fix your lag, SDE should lay a cable across the pacific/atlantic that is only for
NF users.
Or better yet, lets get them to send up satellites and install dishes in every NF user's roof!

What is your router and or hub speeds? alot of lag went away when I upgraded to
1000 m

90% of lag in internet gaming is caused by 1 thing, your connection to the servers

Note im not talking about connection speed as if you have more than 64kbps you
will have more than enough speed for any internet game, im talking about the actual
nodes you connect through, if one of the nodes is losing packets or having massive
lag due to overloading your connection speed to the NF servers will suffer, this is not
an issue that can be easily resolved as the internet is just a series of nodes that
forward requests to the machine your looking for.

This means that some games will work perfectly all the time, and others will lag
depending on the nodes your passing through, this is why we ask for tracert's
between you and the servers when looking at lag issues so we can isolate which
nodes are causing issues and hopefully contact them and ask them to resolve it.

haha i dont get y people complain about stuff that is their problems blaming it on
others, only time i get lag that is due to sde/tnf is the harbor assault, but other then
that i dont get lag unless i am doing something to cause it, like dling a movie, other
day i was dling a movie at 400 kb/s and playing nf and i got minimal lag, it was kinda
annoying but it was playable

More RAM will definitely cure most lag from any online game in desktops or laptops.
My cousin and lil bro both were running NF with only 516k of RAM....the lag time was
so drastic that you couldn't hardly play a round. So they went and got 2 gigs of
RAM...instant cure....they've got less lag than I have on my laptop now. I'm getting
ready to take this one from 2 gigs to 4. :) Hope this helps some.
