  • Okay, it's time to replace the hamsters....

Yup, it's that time again.... the current hamsters appear to be on their very last wind.

Seriously, I'm getting 15-20 second lag spikes, warping 6+ inches at a time. It's damn
near impossible to play under those circumstances. And I know I'm not the only one
experiencing this.

SDE, please retire the current hamsters and replace them with fresh ones. The slow economy
is no excuse; hamsters cost, what, $5 each?

IMO all this "it's your own fault, get a better connection / PC" answers is bull.

It i can play guild wars, or everquest or world in conflict on my PC with little to no
lagg... i certainly should not lagg on a low rent game like navyfield.

poor programming / servers is the reason.

Ok what SDE should ask a player:
1: what version of windows are you using:
2: how many security programs do you have running & which ones:
3: Are you multi-tasking - running how many programs like browser open, in
computer program, etc.:
4: do you have a chat IM running atm:
5: are you using TS or Vent and are you trying to use TS Overlay:
6. what other hardware are you using: keyboards, mouse, webcams, etc.:

All these questions are factors you have to look into. For example: Win Vista 64 vs
32 bit? either way TS overlay doesn't work with Vista. NF Fixter doesn't work with
Vista 64 bit.

In my opinion, SDE should be taking a poll of these such options for lagging, loading,
and crashing problems. This would help out the programmers in developing new
fixes. It would help out the player in elimiating possible problems with computer
gaming issues.

Get gerbils 'mon. They come in racks at reasonable prices. I can't even get smooth ping
sometimes in a room of over 20 CLs on a side, zoom'd out.

"I'm on road runner, thank you very much. And when I was still on campus, before I
graduated, I was on a T1 connection and it STILL lagged. It's not always client-side."

>>>> Lol only people from New York really know what that means, mate.

Anyways, college internet sucks because it's RARELY 'advanced fiber optic.' If you're not
using RoadRunner Turbo with the new power boost thing or whatever it is, get that, because
I'm not experiencing too much lag.

Also, if you're on a laptop, make sure your Wi-Fi is connecting to the correct connection.
Sometimes a computer will try to connect to any old connection, and it will pass right
over your big expensive RoadRunner connection for some 1-bar linksys connection.

If I don't have lag even when internet speeds gets throttled down to 64kbps
(bloody Aussie internet quota) whilst other get lag then it is most probably a
bottleneck somewhere enroute to the servers.

Try doing a Tracert scan.

While the lag during HA is server side, I don't know if the lag you are experiencing is
server side.
Also, you are getting people claiming they don't have lag.

I guess it is still remotely possible that it is server side, but pretty unlikely >.>

I just played a few games and I am about as far away as you can get from the servers and I
am having no lag. I realise this is a fair few hours after you posted, but still.
I did have some in the waiting room, but I later realised that was due to outlook
downloading some attachments =P

I actually think its gotten less laggy recently, I used to be utterly unable to play
during peak hours (Day) but now I can play relatively well.

Connection speed is not the main issue, the ping is. You can have fastest connection
in town but it will lag if your ping to the server is high.
