Update June 6, 2011

Guess I'm not back. :S See stickied post by me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm back! See everyone in game and I shall do my best to make up for lost time!

-Dampre

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Everyone,

This explanation is long over due and tonight is the first time I've really been able to
sit down in front of my computer and type up this post.

My life over the past several weeks has been very busy and will continue to be quite
hectic until I graduate at the end of May. Currently I am working part time and
balancing that with school/school functions/graduation stuff/prom(s)/so involvement
in clubs and much more. Not to mention my more personal life that I have on my
plate as well.

Right now my schedule has pretty much made it impossible for me to log into NF at
all this month.

Sadly I will be inactive in game until I graduate and have a better time schedule to
work with. I will try to check on the forums but there has been several days in a row
I haven't even been on the computer. I feel horrible that out of all the times in the
year I have to be inactive now but my real life and education takes priority right
now. I felt it was necessary to inform the community that I will be inactive and the
reasons for it as well as how long I will most likely not be able to adequately
perform my duties.

I look forward to being back in game as soon as possible and once again I apologize
for not being there right now.

I also made this post on the Nebraska Fleet League boards and included some
information about the TeamNF contact for the fleet league during my leave.

Maturity > Age, and Dampre has been an example of that. If anything, you should be
surprised that someone "his age" (a volunteer, at that) is one of the better points of
customer service this company has....

OT: Try to have some fun near the end of school. I think some people here are just mad you
didn't invite them to prom :)

Age is merely a rudimentary indicator of anything. When combined with other factors it
may allow others to imply other characteristics. A person could be young and overexposed
to more things than adults are or vice versa- old senile and clueless, or somewhere in
between.

Can experience provide a chance of gaining some knowledge? Only if that person is aware
of the knowledge,
understands it, and can make something of it. With out it, the person might as well be
clueless and never have experienced anything because it won't matter.

I believe the age idea that is being thrown around is based upon the following prognosis:

Time= More chances for experiences
Experiences= Knowledge

While in theory this may work out, there are no such thing as absolutes.

What is more important than age is the ability to do the job. Is it more likely that the
above formula turns out to be true? Probability may show a correlation; but again there
is no such thing as absolutes- And creating hard policy out of non-absolutes has always
led to a .... lets just call it a series of interesting situations.

If only we had a slew of "underage" immature admins... and all young players it would make
my life much more easier... At least I could blame every looney decision on young people
being immature. But unfortunately we have a tremendously huge population of older players
pretending like they're tweens in this game :/

Time to get back to my lunch break.

I've only heard good things about Dampre, so I can assume that at the time he
became a moderator (and was presumably under the age of 18), he mature enough
to handle the responsibility. People like him, and if he does his job well (create
events), then what's the issue?

sorry if I dont feel a CHILD is responsible enough to be a mod for a video game.
Your right.. I'm totally nuts.
***
I believe Dampre didn't really deal too much with 'moderating' - I.E. he typically
wasn't one handing out bans, warnings, etc. He is the event co-ordinator and that
has been his main objective so that is something to keep in mind.

And as has been said before - he has always been helpful despite his explicit goal
pertaining towards events.

***
edit--- I wanted to add.. since you brought it up about how I'm such a terrible
person.

This is what I was thinking.. we have a game with the crappiest customer service I
have ever seen. I have a BS in Management of Human Resources so I know
customer service.. also spent 10 years in the air force. I taught over 6k military
members on matters such as customer service, safety, and other physiology matters
(sleep, nutrition etc). I also have 2 AAS degrees..

the point I'm trying to make is that I have experience.. I have lived life.. I know how
to control myself and I know alot about alot of stuff. What does a high school kid
know?

If I recall correctly, all mods have access to our information INCLUDING passwords..

Why would this type of responsibility be given to a child? Damp *may* be 18 now.. .
but I know his name for a few years now and I wonder how long he has been a
mod..

but even at 18.. do you think a child in high school has the social ability to truely
handle customer service problems? any experience? what kind of background does
he have for dealing with issues? What happens if, as children do, he may get mad
and throw a tantrum.. He wouldn't be the first mod to screw things up.

again..d amp.. I dont know you.. it's nothing personal.. it's on a bigger scale then
you.. again.. I see all this crappy customer service we deal with, then find out we
have kids running things.. I wonder if this hasn't caused issues before..

Dampre hasn't been mod for long - I am guessing around 9 months.

Also, it doesn't take a genius to know what good customer service is. In fact,
someone who has no experience with the "dickhead-ery" that is the business world
would probably give better customer service than someone who has.

Dampre has a lot to offer since he knows the game well and plays well (better than
most) and has been around for a while too. His attitude towards his role in TNF thus
far has (publicly) been better than most too and he has run events fairly consistently
up until lately.

I don't think dampre's participation in TNF was a mistake on SDE's behalf. In fact
what I believe is quite the contrary.

I'm not saying that what you presumed is not without any foundation, but it is being
a bit ageist. I think if you dealt with dampre you would realise that he tends to
provide better 'customer service' than most which (I'm sure many would agree) is a
breath of fresh air :P

Just because someone is graduating from school doesn't mean they are 18. There are
some people that are finishing 1st, 2nd, and in some cases 3rd degrees. Lets all not
assume ages based on what the person is doing.

If someone can carry themselves in a mature manner the amount of time they have
resided on planet earth doesn't really matter.

GLHF all.

RL always trumps EL. Good luck Dampre i know from experience that School can be alot
of work.

not to sound rude.. but underage mods? seriously? even 18 years old is to young if
you ask me

@gump, I just noticed we are in the same fleet as I went to make this post,
however I still feel that you are 100% wrong in your comments.

Maturity >age.. You will find some 14yr olds that are very mature for their age, in the
same way you will find some 30-40yr olds are very immature, this game is a prime
example of that.

If someone has shown potential and willing (as dampre has) then where is the
problem?

Also, no mods do not have access to your passwords. I would be surprised if even
the GMs have access to it. It is more likely they can reset your password for you, but
not tell you what your password is.

Cena Gms can access ur accounts with ur password but almost rarely ever do.
