Hey guys,

 

I believe I now have sufficient concrete details in order to inform you of our company's upcoming plans regarding Kaiser server.

 

It doesn't take much to see that Kaiser server has been lagging behind Nebraska server in overall activity.  I know that some of you may not be inclined to believe me when I say it, but we have been constantly monitoring the conditions of both servers for some time; TeamNF moderators have been voicing the community's concerns, and we have been holding serious discussions internally about ways in which to improve gameplay enjoyment on Kaiser server. Since the lack of activity is a detriment to fully enjoying NF, we all agree that something pretty drastic must be done to fix this. Something like creating a very active single server community.

 

I've disclosed in the past the hurdles that we would need to get around in order to consider a server merge. The main issue stems from a technical server cap limitation. We have been afraid that by combining servers there may be instances in which some players may be unable to join during peak hours of activity and during event times or holidays.  Other hurdles include general account logistics and developing an efficient method to complete the merge.

 

Keeping in mind the unsatisfactory conditions on Kaiser server, our team has been working behind the scenes on overcoming the hurdles and planning a server merge to be completed as soon as possible.  Our devs have been aware of these plans but have some work to complete regarding a current project before the merge can be initiated. We are aiming to have the merge completed prior to any Winter event which would mean late November or earlier if possible. 

 

I really hope our players are understanding and supportive of this step as it is not an easy task to complete. I have to also stress that we may still run into some issues regarding those aforementioned hurdles but we will do our best to try and manage and mitigate before-hand, which may include actions such as no-notice disconnects, afk trade and fleet room removals, etc. as situations arise. Once the merger is complete we can then look forward to a an efficient environment for new content that everyone can gain maximum benefit and enjoyment from. Additional details will be added as they become available.

you mean those 70 boosts and 300 vets that are still lying around?:P

Very good initiative Randy, thx for the update. Now I can finally see some of the mega flottas on nebby^^

While the server merge is a good news to us, SDE must find a way to slow down the player loss, either by finding the old inactive people back or getting new people to play (which is unlikely).

The fact is, after this server merge we'll only have one server, ie. no more magic community-saving button called "server merge".

When this server merge does happen people will need to write down what they have on the Kaiser server. This way if anything that's missing they can write in a support ticket. That has happened to me before with sailors missing and I didn't write down what I had.

I don't understand how the merge is being presented as being so difficult and time consuming.

Isn't every account a file?  Isn't every file nothing more than data?  Why does this merge have to be so massive?  Wouldn't it be better to ask for a few volunteers to transfer their accounts and see how that goes?  Then you tweak what you need to for a larger merge or forget the large merge and do it in stages.  Then if problems arise you can manage those problems on a few accounts rather than having to deal with a deluge of problems and complaints from a mass move.

Maybe I am oversimplifying, but there is such a thing as a FLASHDRIVE and this appears to me to be nothing more than a cut and paste.

If you can delete someones file for cheating or hacking then you know where that file is and if you know where it is you can copy it and if you copy it you can take that copy and move it from Kaiser to Nebraska.  Then you ask the owner of that file to log into their account on Nebraska server and see if all there stuff is there.  Most likely it will all be there and then you disable Kaiser after all the files have been moved.  But their file is still on Kaiser?  So what.  If they play there all their time will be a waste because the server is going to be shut down.

The real problem is lack of participation on Kaiser server and that is the problem that is being solved.  The rest of you with too many sailors and accounts on both servers need to stop making YOUR problem OUR problem.  If you have more than can fit SELL SOME.  You can't expect us to believe that every single sailor you own is a 120 elite boosted engy.  Grow up and accept some responsiblity and stop playing the victim.  You are aware of the server merge so take the proper action to preserve your accounts. 

If the dam breaks and the flood water is rising do you expect us all to stop what we are doing and help you lift your stuff off the floor because that is where you left it?

+1 ya it would make sense so Kaiser player's accounts would be possibly closer as far as depth to a Nebby Player's account.

about your cap, in the old days AZ server had that issue every event, and we got thru it, just like we will get thru it now until the cap issue can be addressed



It would be a full server merge. However, I can't confirm if we would be purging the inactive accounts much like we did before or if they would be merged as well. Last time what we did was create server backups just prior to the merge in order to be able to restore data in the event that a player who was inactive would return.

I agree that we should be able to get through the initial troubles brought on by a merge. We just hope to try and provide a seamless trouble-free experience if possible.

And last time I was a Dbag for saying the more active server shouldnt have its fleets disbanded? Seems quite different now that the shoe is on the other foot eh?
