The majority of this post is in the first reply, thus eliminating the long thread on every
page. I will work on updating this post periodically taking in the input from fellow
players. Thanks to all for the input and making this such a great game!

Nice guide!!!

As a full dedicated Subdriver in Nelson server I learn that CREW IS EVERYTHING in sub life

It is possible to reach high level repair rates and 900 SD on IJN SS4, but it takes an
open mind to re-think all sailor system lefting common aknolegment from NF community
aside... Almost all it said about SS crew training, classing and management is wrong.

Skeletonize for example (a BO is not be there to adds to marking as in BB ships... he's
there for adds to repair and restore... why reduce his ability then?) or why class a
torpedoman to max torpedo ability if it is caped so soon? why not let him accumulates
rep&res when he's Sailor IJN? It reduce final weight without less ab.

Resumen:
My IJN SS4 CREW
IJNSS4[BO] : @86 {IJN Sailor}L12-62>{IJN B.O.}------->>> I do not suggest this: just I was
impatience
IJNSS4[T1] : @85 {IJN Sailor}L12-62>{IJN SPC. Kai Torpedo} (Cap:72)
IJNSS4[R1] : @82 {IJN Sailor}L12-78>{IJN Chief Gunner} (ACC/RLDCaps:92/111)
IJNSS4[S1] : @82 {IJN Support Sailor}L12-78>{IJN 2nd Sonarman}
IJNSS4[S2] : @86 {IJN Support Sailor}L12-51>{IJN 2nd Planesman]L52-81>{IJN Chief
Planesman}L82-86 ------------> I suggest a Normal Planesman, this was a experiment
IJNSS4[S3] : @79 Normal {IJN 1st Engineer}
IJNSS4[S4] : @79 Normal {IJN 1st Engineer}
IJNSS4[S5] : @79 Normal {IJN 1st Engineer}

Sub AB ship:
BO marking: 25,4 marks
TSR 11,75
Torp Reload: 16,8s (one each 2,1s )
Full tank recharge in... 01:21
Sailor OH Ratio: 21%
Overheat Time: 01:07,5
Repair: 68 DP/sec
900 SD
Sailors Weigth 271 tn
NOTE: You can note that this sub can fire his gun...

Subs are like ASW -- good source for Veterans. I think the system is designed to give
vets as the player level differential is greatest. So if you are in a Sub, the higher
level of BBs will help you increase your crew abilities.

Chibata,

Never let the subs get inside your torpedo exploding range. If they stay on the edge
of it, the damage your topedoes do will kill them even with splash damage. That's why
with the SS2 and SS3 I run away from them and kill them with the aft torpedoes -- it keeps
the enemy away. The sonarman is critical in SS fights. Whoever sees first usually gets
the first shot.

BTW I was playing with 2 engy's, a repair and a seaman on my SS4. My engy's have
leveled up some more and I got some experts for them, so I felt like the Seaman was no
longer needed. I replaced him with a restorer (I know -- GASP -- why not another engy or
repair -- I don't have them...) I am really liking the restorer. At this point, my SD is
at least 50 points higher (I am running 640 with a crew from mid 70s to high 80s).

I still think SD is more important than repair for a sub. If you get hit, you go under
for repair, but as soon as you go down below a certain level, your speed and underwater
time is too short to survive. Maybe if I ever get to SD 900, I could use another engy or
repairer, but I don't see this happening anytime soon.

I always have a hard time fighting against other SS, doesn't matter their lvl...
Currently, I have a IJN SS3... It is pretty slow.

Thanks for the tips!

Lots of times I will surface if HHs are being used on me. One game, the player scored
direct hits with the HHs. That seemed to do a alot of damage on me. It would be
interesting to try the same against surface ships.

Not much xp. The sailors riding on the ASW make around one gold bar. I do that role
when subs start taking off the majority of the games I play with. DCs do kill surface
ships though...
