  • Crew and Nation Guide for New BB Players

SaddleRocker
So you are a new player, or want to make a new crew and want to do it right this
time, then this is the guide for you.

I beleive that some nations are easier for new players and some are very technical,
better for experianced players.
I am going to list from easiest to hardest nations. I will give some general attributes
of each and pros and cons then list what crew I think is best....

Some general information to consider:
-GUN ANGLES - 45 degree angles used by IJN and US can be a bit tricky, but hit hard.
KM UK and MN use between 30-40 degree angles which can be easier for hitting
your target.
-AA - AA is a very nice thing to have, IJN KM and MN have good AA and US has some
useable setups. UK has no worthwhile AA for its BB's. BUT AA can be hard to manage
in the heat of battle.
-ENGINEERS - Engys are the single most important support sailor there is, I
reccomend 4 engys for every nation, 5 or 6 for UK ( dont slack!)
-RESTORERS - Restorers are useless at high levels. Restorers give you SD, good in
low level ships but if you have the proper crew you dont need one for a BB. You will
have 900SD without one if you have the correct crew.

UK
UK is a good nation for new players because of the lower gun angles and it does not
have AA which is sometimes a distraction. UK has very good repairs and restorers so
you can acheive a good repair rate and 900sd faster than other nations. Also it has
an extra support slot on most of the BB's making it easier to level supports up.
Because UK does not use AA it leaves room for 2 more supports than other nations.
UK also has very good firepower, but the least range (Except BB5, L2 has more
range than Montana). And lastly UK has the ability to armor or speed whore
giving you more options on how to run your BB's
MY CREW RECCOMENDATION: (For BB5)
2 Main gunners. (Get accuracy stats and class as reload gunners)
4 Repairers
6 Engineers (If you cannot BVE your crew at all you can use one Restore for SD, but
not reccomended)
Scout
(Bare minimum is 5 engineers 3 repairs)
(For BB6 same amout of sailors as BB5, so 6 engy 4 rep)

KM
KM is also a good nation for newer players. The gun angles range from 30-37
degrees making it maybe the easiest nation for landing shells. KM has the smallest
size guns for each ship class, that combined with the low angles make KM the
weakest hitting nation. KM has good AA, good engineers, and the best range.
CREW RECCOMENDATION:(For BB5)
2 Main gunners
2 AA gunners
4 Engineers
3 Repairers
Scout
(Bare minimum is 4 engy 2 rep or 3 engy 3 rep)
(For BB6 5 engy 3 rep and 2 AA)

France (MN)
France is an interesting nation. Gun angles are low, 30-40 degrees. French ships are
fast with good AA. The AA has roughly the same range and reload as IJN, but its a
bit weaker. You will need REGULAR GUNNERS for MN AA. Hitting power of the BB1,
BB2, and BB5 are great, but the BB3 and BB4 are front gun only setups with low
firepower. MN gets many quad guns, but none truly blockshot. MN has ok engineers,
between IJN and US, but repairers are tied for worst with KM. Gunners are good
also, between IJN and KM
Crew Reccomendation: (For BB5)
2 Main Gunners
2nd set of main gunners for AA (use neuts with reload ability)
4 Engineers
3 Repairers
Scout
(Add an extra engineer for the BB6 requirements)

US
US is a fairly balanced nation. It uses 45 degree angles and good sized guns. You
have a choice with AA for US. you can make RLD gunners and use the "D" variant 3"
or 5" guns for AA, or you can level 2 more supports and not use AA like UK. Although
US is "Balanced" when you get to BB5 you get the most firepower but the least
range.
CREW RECCOMENDATION: (For BB5)
2 Main gunners classed as accuracy gunners
2 RLD gunners for AA (add an extra engy and rep if you dont want AA)
4 Engineers
3 Repairers
Scout
(Bare minimum again is 4 engy 2 rep or 3 engy 3 rep)
(For BB6 use 5 engy 3 rep and 2 AA, or 6 engy 4 rep no AA)

IJN - (Hard)
IJN is the most technical nation in my opinion. It has good AA with very long range
but it is only useful on BB4/5 and PBB and it is hard to hit planes once they get close
to your ship. IJN also uses 45 degree angles. To go along with all that IJN has the
worst supports in terms of ability. Though it does have good firepower and range.
CREW RECCOMENDATION:
2 Main gunners
2 DP gunners (Leave classed as armament sailors until at LEAST lvl 65 then class as
cheif DP gunners)
4 Engineers
3 Repairers
Scout
(Bare minimum 4 engy 2 rep or 3 engy 3 rep)
(For BB6 5 engy 3 rep and 2 AA)

Well I hope I can help some people with this guide.
Im sure there is alot I forgot, let me know if there are some major things, But
basically I was going for a quick reference and some general attributes of the
nations.
If you like it, Reccomend it :)

1) I say use all support, 6 engy 4 rep is best i think. but you can use rld gunners if
you really want AA
2) RLD
3) For IJN you class as armament sailors at lvl 12 and leave them like that for as long
as possible, at least until lvl 60. Then class them as DP gunners. The reason for this
is once you class them as DP they lose reload growth, so keeping them as
armament sailors for as long as possible is best. There isnt any good AA until
yamato and super yamato anyways. (B65 has decent AA, but the ship is pretty
crappy, fuso or ise is better imo)
4) UK has very bad reload time, so if you class as reload it will be much better. And
by the time you are in a BB5 you will be at accuracy cap and much closer to reload
cap than if you had acc gunners. But i say to get reload stats and class as accuracy
gunners, because I am thinking about all the ships leading up to BB5 when you
need good accuracy. yes the Quads will blockshot with rld gunners but it is my
opinion that accuracy is better in these lower level ships and you can deal with a bit
slower reload in BB5/6. If you plan to grind hard and fast to BB5 go with rld. if you
are like 80% of new players who never get past BB3/4 i say go with acc.
5) Someone plz correct me if im wrong. I think it goes acc-acc-rld. I am not sure, US
is the only nation i dont have.

Hope this helps. also make use of other guides in tips/tactics and the nation
sections for better understanding.

i have couple of questions about the crew:
1) for UK should i use AA or support team for my BB line (for BB 3+)
2) if i do choose to use AA gunners, should i class them to reload gunners or AA ?
3) same question for IJN - reload or AA class for a secondary battery gunners?
4) Lord kelvin said "RN uses Reload gunners, not Accuracy gunners, those hit both caps far
earlier"
what does it mean? do UK uses a reload class gunners for their main guns or did he refeard
to the AA battery?

5) should USA use accuracy all the way or should they class reload - acc - acc or any
other combination?

thanks for answering

What does LOIC mean? lol

And yeah I updated some of the crew reccomendations

Chisame
45* = LOIC.

It's a bitch to get used to, meaning that your rushing range is shorter and your running
range is longer.

KM is pretty fair to me.

For IJN BB6, NEVAR GO 4/4 engy/rep. 5/3 or if you're like me, 6/2.

Listen to the people who say UK is overpowered. That way you know what you can expect and
overestimate. =P

A few things, in order of appearance.

First off, RN does have usable aa for BBs. It's either short-ranged and weak but light as
a feather (pompoms) or hard hitting, average range and heavy (RP10). An RN BB can use the
pompoms with little, if any loss of speed or the RP10s if they're willing to risk a
noticeable loss in spped in return for extra AA power. While RN AA is not the best, it's
better than nothing. Player's choice really. Note to other players-pompoms can only be
used by AA gunners while regular gunners can still use RP10s. RN also has the slowest
reload for main guns. Making your shots count is essential because in lower level BB s you
could be sunk before your slow-arse reload finishes.

KM angles are between 30 and 40, not 30 and 37. AA is a big thing for KM as it's one of
their major advantages. Even at BB4-5 level the better players are all packing AA.
AA=ability to kill scouts, no scouts spotting you=invisible, invisibility=win. KM BB1-2s
can be extremely helpful to their team by shooting down planes, then rushing in to hit
enemies and retreating before the opposition knows what hits it. KM suits the sniper/ninja
playstyle.

USN players are recommended to use the 5" Mk 38s for AA, I personally use the N variant.
USN BB1-2 players will have to deal with ships that are slower and mostly shorter ranged
than their other nation's counterparts, with the exception of Alaska/Guam. USN BBs really
start to shine at the BB3 stage, but can be quite a destructive surprise at the later
BB1-2 stage as well.

I honestly can't comment on IJN much as I haven't played their BBs. All I can say in
addition to the OP is that they have the smallest selection of BBs. (CVs however... lol)

Kongo's T slots are ok for AA,not great but useable.

Agree with exo_skel73 i'm a KM player got a bb2 i hit and run can't take hits from bb
shells and cvs eat us for lunch.
We got no armor just range and speed is our thing.
Only time i do sink bb is when they took allot of damage and i get the last hit.

The only easy thing is AA if you know your angles if not your pretty much toasts .

A new player won't like KM.

This guide should be sticky cause there is no guide that has all nations in it.
Best to read and pick which one a new player would have fun in.
