  • CV Shortage

Well, it's been an ongoing problem with NF. Most rooms fill to 20 BB's and everyone MUST
wait (with the invention of GBII) long periods of time for the room to start. This is a serious
turnoff to new players and any MMO needs player base growth to keep the game alive.

So the question is:

Why do you think the servers have low CV activity?

My observations,

-Monotonous fighter biased gameplay. BB's go blind and become aggravated at you.
-Shared XP resulting in weak rewards for being successful.
-AA ships. Cause and affect. AAW'ing is the only practical form of getting experts. With ships
like the Mandel, it's getting a little ridiculous. Moltke's and Pensacola's are bad enough.
-Low fuel on planes. I've noticed this hurts TB usage as it's difficult to regroup them after
the "low fuel" mark is hit.
-Lack of CV content. Especially when you compare it to BB content.
-Small diversity between cv nations.
-Shared CV6's between IJN/KM and US/UK
-No real advantage of owning a CV6 over a PCV. PCV in some ways is better since you can
use a support on the BO slot.

Discuss.

Yes, the lack of damage certainly hurts. What I try to do is cripple/sink BB1-3s or kill
AA ships to let scouts do their work. Then I leave the fighters over there as scouts til
they die. I'm having one heck of a time finding ways to fly around the fighters. I'll give
it a try your way and see if its easier.

In terms of using waves of fighters AND bombers in one wave, don't do it. Keep your waves either all fighter
or all bomber. 4 bombers can't do enough damage and 5 fighters can't protect them. Most cv's are locked
into being 'scout bitch' so getting bombers through is suprisingly easy. You just need to watch how the lines
develop before picking a path is all...

A lot of good points were made in this thread. Most of the stupid ones were shot right
down. I actually learned a few things by reading closely about what the vet CV drivers are
doing. Thanks for posting! Some of the topics that I found interesting and I agree
something needs to be done are :

AA ships - I saw one or two drivers talking about how they aren't hard to avoid. I'm a
relatively newer CV driver but I've found its a mixed bag. You can tell the new ones by
the massed amount of fire but the surprising lack of hits as your planes go right on by.
BUT, you get two good ones side by side, forget it, you are done. Usually they are working
in pairs; you try to bomb one and the other is covering him. There are also some good BB
drivers out there with AA loaded and take out single planes with ease. I don't think
giving bombers more damage is a good idea. I do think that having them take more damage is
a good idea. Let the AA ships work a little more.

All fighter CV - I know that the vets don't like me saying this, but you guys make playing
a newer CV pretty darn tough. I learned from you guys about the magic number of bombers
being either 3 or 6. Being a BW makes me a liability to the team as I can't scout or
defend myself. So if I'm running 3 waves of bombers, that means I need to run 3 waves of
fighters to protect them. There are HORDES of all fighter high level ships. Most of them
are CV5s and PCVs, either IJN or USN. All it takes is two of them on the same team and
most of the map is now covered. So here I am in my average joe CV4. I've got L70s-L80s
planes. Now, I'm facing L100s planes and they are putting 10-20% more in the air on each
wave. If that isn't enough because I'm trying to bomb, they are now launching 10-12
fighters while I'm launching 5 fighters and 4 bombers. When this happens there isn't much
you can do. I trying sacrificing my fighters so the bombers can go. I try flying around
them. I try leading them off course with fighters, I try flying fighters at higher alt and
bombers at lower. Sometimes I even fly into the #$%@ AA ships fire to shake them off.
Even if I get through once, most of the time you go down in flames. One or two people have
commented here that they walk away when they see the AA ships build up. At least you can
fly away from them! When I see and all fighter midway with the name "$$$$" or "bread
winner" or whatever, that really isn't any different than the AA ships. I scout the other
CVs and if I see that there are more than 2 of them, I leave. I don't mind playing against
one to see if I can win and having a second one on my own team is fine. Having them
blanket the whole map makes it impossible. Also skill can only make up so much ground when
you are over matched.

Flaming - Some is fine, but when they are both utterly retarded and repeated its too much.
I saw comment about all CVs going in one direction. I don't do that but I've had games
where after we split up, five minutes later here comes my partner... no one singles out
bad BB players only CVs and I'm sick of it. I call out BBs that can't hit the target while
my fighters are dying for their precious vision. I also call out surface ships that can't
AA, fail to stop SS from penetrating the screen or don't carry a scout. Most flamers are
the worst drivers, otherwise they won't be depending on me to cover up their mistakes.

Final point is the wait for rooms - You know what, I like it! There, you want to hate on
CVs and make the play miserable? Guess you wait. Nice thing for me is that there are
always 2-4 rooms available and waiting for my CV. If I don't like all the AA in a room or
if I don't want 2 all fighter lexingtons and an all fighter midway, I just go into
another. It sure makes leveling a lot better because I don't have to wait as long for
games to start. So despite some of the issues, I just keep with it. If others want to give
up, let the all fighter CVs or AA ships drive them out, thats fine. Too many people just
don't have the guts to stick with it, learn from mistakes and get better.

The reason lower tiered fighters have more fuel and sight range is so that lower level CV
players can have a bigger impact on the game. Avoid enemy fighters and focus on helping to
scout.

You want your T1's to stand a fighting chance, stay in blitz, it's there for a reason.
Otherwise, you SHOULD be SOL, otherwise whats the point in leveling?
You want to make an impact in a CV1/2 with at-level pilots in a GB2, BW...

so you want your lvl40 T1 match lvl120 T4 that took 6months of hard leveling plus some
dolars of experts ?
your T1 should and will suck as an alaska sucks against a lion2 its pretty obvious
still low lvl CVs has an advantages that BB players dont have its called locals
that allows them to match CV WAY BETTER than them

CV:
Tough to level up in the beginning
Your planes get slaughter by uber T4 Ftr easily
Ftr are completely imbalance, T1 have no match to T4, they got killed in a sec
Survivability of T1/T2 TB is too low, but it takes longer to get DB
CV1 is too weak, just like crappy SS1

The problem at hand is not CV-balance. It is having not enough CV players for a
server population that insists on playing GB2.

And while I agree that there are some things wrong with CV-balance, I believe that
these things have to wait until the current and much more severe problem has been
solved.

If you look at the way GB2 is set up, about 40% of the capital ship players should be
playing CVs, to saturate all the rooms that are opened. Not taking into account BB
and/or select type rooms.
I do not have any numbers, but I believe that currently we are way below 40% - I
would guess we are more close to 20-30%. As a result we have long waiting times,
rooms starting with 3-5 CVs or even disbanding.

These things make the game less enjoyable for all players. Because waiting is not
much fun.

So really, we need to get more people to play CV. And to achieve this, we need to
make them want to play CV.

How can you make people want to play CV?

IMHO there are only two ways:

a) Make playing CV more fun.
b) Increase reward for playing CV

"1 extra plane launch is not worth around 30 million xp, 50 million creds, and 20 million
points
while lacking a support you otherwise could have with a PCV. Not even mentioning the huge
repair cost. When you compare the power of a BB6 over a BB5 you'll get the clue."

Every fleet who plays harbor assault would disagree with you.

Have you ever seen one of the harbor holders use a pcv if cv6s were available?

"Outright denying that there isn't a problem with CV's causing the shortage of CV players is
pretty silly. There's at least 40 people that have some idea of how to solve the problem
in this thread alone. By majority, I can assume we all care about the game we love."

You're nitpicking at issues that aren't really issues. Some are issues, but some, if
applied would destroy cv gameplay, such as your desperate "nerf aa ships I can't change
altitude or avoid their area of fire"

"No, Tico can't hold 255 bulge. But why worry with an escort, a rep as a BO and 2 gunners
using hedgehogs? Hell you could load a sonarman on it if you wanted. You need a level 115
sonarman to use it on a CV6. 255 bulge is nothing versus an HEI."

255 bulge is better than nothing, but really the main thing I like about my cv6s is that
they have a ton of guns that I can use for asw or aa.

Main Cause :SDE doesn't care about CV players to implment anything from the "Ultimate CV
Wish List" Its kinda like going to the mall sit on Santa Clauses Lap ask for a puppy and
getting a stuffed animal dog instead.
Morale of the Story SDE will fake it.
It's Easier to ask for something if you know your not going to get it.
