  • Quick Status Updates 1/25/13

    01. 25. 2013 01:27

TeamNF_MK2

Hey guys,

I'm afraid its been a while since we last touched base on the status of upcoming projects and news. Since work has been primarily sticking to schedule as previously discussed, there has not been much to update. However, I'm sure some would rightfully argue that this latest event was in need of prior notification. I deeply apologize for the lack of notice. It ended up springing up on us as well on account of decisions out of our direct control. We hope to provide ample notice for future events.

On that note, I wish to provide some notice for a special "bundle pack" which will be made available through the NF Store on 1/31/13. This special bundle pack is set to include various popular premium items along with an exclusive set of item that has never before been made available and that will only be available through this limited bundle. The bundle will only be available for a certain period or until 200 have been sold. This is all I can say for the moment, so please look forward to it's full reveal on the 31st.

With regards to our ongoing projects and work, please see the following notes:

Amazon Free-to-Play Integration
Work is ongoing and currently in the testing phase. More time is needed in order to fully resolve a technical issue that has been holding our devs back.

New Fleet Leader Forum
As noted in the previous thread, our web devs have had their time taken by the Amazon project which has lead to unfortunate delays on the opening of this forum. We expect to have the new fleet leader forum opened by the 15th of February at the latest.

Ship Parts Reinforcement System
Full details are still being finalized and will be made available once decided upon. The system is on target for introduction into the test server soon followed by patching to the live server in March.

Harbor Assault
TNF has taken players up on the offer to take part in observing HA. However, we still are lacking in necessary bug or improvement reports. Please send us your observations and necessary fix reports through a "Bug Report" support ticket. You may title it "HA Report".  This will provide us a great assistance.

Item Slot Max Increase
This has already been patched to the server. Player accounts are now able to hold up to 80 different items (up from 50).

Great Battle 3 aka mid-tier battle room
This battle room aimed at helping players transition from Blitz is likely going to be called "Skirmish". It is on track to be patched in February. Details still adhere to the following setup:

Max Ships
BB/BC - 10 (5 per team)
CV - 6 (3 per team)
SS - 4 (2 per team)
PS CA CL DD FF - no limit

No SS mode option (SS will be unable to enter)

Max sailor level to participate - 83

All other options will follow in accordance to GB1

Currently on the drawing board
Our team has just finished up some plans for some very unique changes intended for World at War. All I can note at this time is that the changes are meant to help provide a greater incentive and to engage veteran players.

There may be plans for a small event to be held in March. Details will be provided beforehand as they become available.

Previous quick updates can be found here

Thank you,

-Randy

What I mean by it is right most of it is not seen is a lot of it involves account information, activity, suspension/release, issues that ought not to be general consumption.  I considered a while back doing a weekend of blogging with short messages of everything done over the course of a weekend.  The problem is messaging without giving the game away as it were as to who I was helping/dealing with as it went along.  I also dont think personally that I should be shouting about every little thing that happens or I get involved with.  I prefer the quieter, just get it done approach.  I take the hit that can make it appear as though little happens, hence why I will try and do some more on the FB piece and have a think about Twitter.

I am not around much tomorrow and in to Tue though so dont expect a deluge from the outset.

That's a truck full of manure. None of these "offences" occurred in the past few days. You simply realized that there would be too many valid points made, points that you would have to respond with your buzz word filled verbal diarrhea.

"Just get it done approach"? Really what have you done? Most of the perma bans last less than the forum bans you just issued.  The community as a whole is ignored, nobody seeks their input. The ones that speak up are banned. League forum your pet project that you took away from ONF is an utter failure due to its lack of existence. I'm sure it's "coming soon" but what happened to "just get it done"? Or is months and months "just get it done". All this behind the scenes work has utterly failed to do anything to improve the game.

You refer to a handful of voices rising against you. Do you think it might be because of fear? Fear that you ban on bogus violations the ones that want to say something against your lack of effectiveness? Yeah Lukas is a pain in the backside, yeah he goes overboard. But he is passionate about this game and has good ideas. And you could not deal with his suggestions and airing of your failures, so you trumped some breaches of forum rules and shut him down.

If you feel so confident in your image put up a poll about it. See if the community, the one you are supposed to represent with "fresh eyes", vindicates you. But I'm just gonna guess you going to rely on the secret messages from your admirers that tell you "atta boy".

after having my messages deleted, i feel like quoting this...

Ok, If that is the case why not just resign as head mod and give your job to a GM in Korea who works or can work full time for SDE, instead of being a volunteer mod who works during his/her spare time. What this game currently needs is a head mod who can work full time (8 - 10hours a day) since this game has more problems (crashes, bugs, exploit, etc)  than  before.

And its just amazing that everytime there is an issue about you, your leadership, sde or a serious game problem that warrants your time as head mod, you suddenly get busy and some if not most of the opinions would suddenly vanish while you are "away".

Also a bit of an ot question for you, hope you answer. Does this an warrant an automatic 1 day ban without even a warning if you see it yourself?

"alt + 1: Crash round beginning...
alt + 2: Dont be scared, crashes are programmed into nf
alt + 3: Nf has improved the crashes, by making you crash faster"

When the spammers are freely doing their thing in game everytime and doesnt even get a 1 hour ban.

Certainly there is nothing wrong with being away frequently, for family, vacation, work, or other personal issues.  It's called being a typical player.

Being a head moderator is additional responsibility on top of it.

The litmus test I'd use:  If you weren't head moderator, would you still be playing the game as much as some of the more active users in the community?  If the answer is no, you have your answer about if you should resign.

I personally think everyone should cut Vick11 some slack.

On which server are those newly attracted people supposed to play? On the current, the one that runs on capacity limit and can barely handle current players and crashes all the time?

I'd say, your server is garbage (=technical issue), but you can't get a proper one, costs too much. This is strange, because players are buying olives like maniacs, but anyway. So you pretend there is work ongoing till enough people are fed up and leave so the technical issue server can be filled up again. Brilliant.

These updates are like a presentation parading delicately polished turds while talking nervously about the flowery scent. Everyone knows it's excrement.

I thought I would give some input on this, as I took the time to read through everyone's responses.

I started playing this game during beta and immediately like it very much. I continued to play for a few years. Then, due to real-world problems, had to take a break for a few years. I came back a few months ago to find a lot of thing had changed about the game and I was honestly rather excited about them. However, I now find that all of these additions (new ships, harbors, subs, etc.) have done nothing but make the game more unstable. I complained years ago about how often the game crashed and how often I came across bugs. Literally nothing has been done to improve the game in 7 years that I have played. It has only gotten worse. I really don't care about anything in the game right now besides making it more stable. I am so sick of crashing constantly. It's a problem that has always been here. After taking a few years off, I should have most definitely come back to a near flawless game.

This game's stability NEEDS to be improved. It is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS how much it crashes.

ENOUGH WITH THE EXCUSES, JUST FIX IT!

I'm sure that your request will get the "just get it done" priority sticker on it.

well i believe it was explained at one point that they have a korean IP for a game on a server in california. and the fact that it continually seeks a "best path" between her and korea even before it moves data

the servers could very much carry the game as it is, they just have not changed to a USA ip to solve some of the problems.

another problem is how much of the game is loaded onto ram. alot. i think it was said in another thread that once it gets to 900k it is too much for either your ram to handle or for the "best path" and crashes.

so a proper temporary fix is actually easy enough, but the current TNF is not pushing for proper fixes, but rather seek to have useless additions to the game. thus again i say:

i have a vote of no confidence in vick11
