IJN BB Guide

I am writing this guide, because I see a lot of random questions about the IJN BBs.
The Stickies we have are out-dated, and some of the new guides are a bit.... ugly to
say the least. So here is a simple guide of IJN BBs.

I also do not own a Ise, so I will not comment on that ship.

Order of Appearance
Crew
Kongo
12.2"L vs 14"N
Fuso
14"L vs 16"D
Nagato
Yamato
Super Yamato
Amagi

@Valkryie Thanks, I don't see a hole lot of difference between Ise/Fuso, just preference.

Thanks for your kind words, and to my L2 HAH! I'm such a noob, Real Life is getting in way.

@gary_corpse Well the 4.7" have the best range. In AA that's what MOSTLY! matters. I
use the Yamato/SuperYam/Amagi for Scout killers, not bombers.

I've never tried the 5" because the 4.7" have the most range.

"The AA of the Yamato is simple, 4.7" DP guns. Level 36 guns. These guns are the only
ones to use. If you use anything else, then there is a problem."

Boom ... pls tell me the reason why choose this instead of 5" DP guns Lv 48
It have more power and faster reload, so I don't understand what is the consideration ...

lol...I was wondering when that challenge was going to come

First off , let me thank Boom for the splendid guide... But I must add that because I have
seen Boom on the server many times I almost know all this stuff like a book..

You see months ago I studied Boom's play with his IJN line and I made a decision at that
time.. I have to play those ships... If played properly I feel the IJN's are amazing ..

So I thank you now Boom... Today I am in a Yamato about to break lvl 100 and I have never
had so much fun in the game... I lvled with the Kongo, B65 (which I put aside) , and the
major portion of my grind was in the Ise (love that ship) ... I will add I adopted all
your tactics.. Sometimes with amazing results and other times with failure ... It took me
awhile to learn not a good idea to get hit by a BB4 or higher... I loved the firepower in
the middle ships... I did almost exactly what Aingeal did with the Nagato ... only for my
last few lvls because the spread drove me insane at earlier lvls.. But I will add... those
16" on the Nagato will get the attention of a BB4 or higher much sooner then a Fuso/Ise
... I actually employed Boom's tactic here very well... wait till the larger BB was
engaged with someone else.. and wow you OH into range and crush him .. lol.. and even
though the Nagato's armor is junky... you have a good portion more DP then the Fuso/Ise so
you feel like its Christmas sometimes when you actually get to shoot again when you would
have expected to be dead...lol.. just for me anyway

So once again thanks Boom for showing me the light... and I will have my SY in a few weeks
so get on that L2 of yours so I can sink you with your own tricks!!!!!

Aussie, At level, the Nagato spread is better than the US BB3's. The only BB3 that
MIGHT! be better at level is Vanguard, but I liked Nagato better at level. The Nagato,
at level, will destroy any BB3. And your thought about IJN 16" being
weak, is totally false. The 16" for the IJN hits like a ton of bricks. And for myself
playing Fuso till BB5? Well guess what, I liked the Nagato over Fuso, but the Fuso
was more fun. If your haveing trouble against UK PoW/Nelson's, your doing
something wrong. The Nagato is not that fat. Learn to Dodge, or learn to play. The
Reload of 16" is amazing to say the least. You can swap to AP, and to HE on the
fly, USE IT!

Also, Kuma/Kita has nothing to do with your Torpedo level. It's your BO level.

People will choose Yamato for BB1-4 rooms, Fleet Wars, Fleet League any of those.

I suggest you learn more about the IJN BB's, before posting false information.

How about this, Your Fuso/Ise vs my Nagato. Let's see what happens.

Just lol. Aussie, did you ever try driving a sodak with at lvl crew? If you had, I think
you would not dare to call a sodak or nocar superior to an at lvl nagato. The nagato's
erratic spread is nothing compared to the shell vomiting from low lvl US bb3's, so I
actually think your effective dmg output will be higher on Nagato.

Do not judge the ship on the performance of at level " fail" drivers or " fail" GB's.

It has good speed and good range, both of which you have to use to get good
results.
At level it has 2-3 kts and a lot of range on the 16"D Fuso, however it's spread
issues aren't masked by the presence of 2 extra centre ship turrets.
Vs the 14" L Fuso it has a bit of range and it might have better reload ( cant recall
and too lazy to look it up), speed is the same. However at that level the Nagato can
carry more bulge and keep going 42 kts, while the Fuso is struggling to keep up the
speed.
So it doesn't have the raw power of Fuso, but it is a bit safer with the extra DP,
range and relative ease of maintaining it's top speed. And it reinforces the need to
have gunners well above you ships level. If you take into account and use all of that,
you still have 1 mean ship.

Oh and a little fun fact: UK BB 1 guns ( Mark I and II) do more damage than the UK
BB 2/3 guns ( RP12).

"The Nagato is arguable the Best BB3 at level."

I see no mention of "in BB 1-3 rooms" which would be completely irrelevent anyhow since
99.5% of this game is great battles.

It's one thing to say it's good on paper. But make sure you factor in everything. It's
fat, it can't carry any useful armor, it has questionable accuracy and mediocre damage,
and overall it's a LESS effective ship than the BB2's. Would anyone really say that
Nagato is more effective than a POW or a Sodak? You even said yourself that you used it
for a total of 2 levels and only because you were bored. That doesnt say much for a "good
ship".

Nagato is the best in BB1-3 rooms. Thats what boom saidm, and the position i support.
Maybe slightly bested by the vanny,
but not for long as its going to be upgraded to bb4 soon. As for the hit power, do not
forget to consider IJN has LOT better rld than UK, and also best US. Sodak hit a tad
harder, but got less range, and at level sodak lack the speed to chase a naggy safely.

The naggy is a line fighter, and its good at that. For that reason I didnt like the ship
much at first. That and the wtf spread. used it for the last 2 lvl to yammy, cuz i was
uber bored after 20 level in a Fuso. But once the gunner are nearing 90, spread becomes
workable and the speed coupled with slingshoting make it more than match for all the bb3s.

I disagree with your opinion that Nagato is anywhere close to being the best BB3. More
often than not, I see blockshotting armor whored Nelsons and POW's owning everything in
site while the Nagato is running at full tilt to hide in the corner before his fat
underpowered ship gets 1 shotted by anything bigger than a cruiser. (that is if you can
find someone that chooses nagato over fuso) And saying it excels in firepower, what is
that compared to? It has about as much firepower as a UK BB1 and nowhere close to as much
as a US BB3.

Also, saying the yamato can get fast with level 115 engineers, well what would be the
point of choosing yamato over super yamato if you have crew that high? That would be like
saying the Kuma has awesome torpedos when you have level 80 torpedomen. Except that no one
is going to use kuma when they can use Kitakami instead.

but for that level period 16" spread suck ball and its better to stick with the 14.

hell as far as im concerned, 14" are the better gun.
