IJN BB Guide

I am writing this guide, because I see a lot of random questions about the IJN BBs.
The Stickies we have are out-dated, and some of the new guides are a bit.... ugly to
say the least. So here is a simple guide of IJN BBs.

I also do not own a Ise, so I will not comment on that ship.

Order of Appearance
Crew
Kongo
12.2"L vs 14"N
Fuso
14"L vs 16"D
Nagato
Yamato
Super Yamato
Amagi

Yes, at level IJN can be rough at times. Quite frequently you can make a mistake and have
to pay for it while some other nations may be more forgiving. But the way around this is
to adjust your play style.

Tired of getting 2 shotted by PoW's and Trip quad nellys? Stop rushing them! (or don't
ever let them under max angle if at all possible for that matter)

Fed up with km's range? Make them chase you!

Had enough of US's average ships? Oh wait...

The point i'm making is just because your ship may have certain faults doesn't mean it's
without benefits.

Nagato in a nutshell

+ Fast at level
+ Great Firepower
+ Fast reload

- Fairly chubby of a ship
- Fragile at level (just as every other bb3 is at level)
- Very random spread (this never changes).

So what do you do to maximize your potential? Two things: Use your advantages! Try not to
expose your weaknesses! Yes random spread is unavoidable, but that just means you can't
rely on all your shells landing. Keep at max range and continue to fire and take advantage
of your reload.

IJN has a rough learning curve, but once you do the above you will learn to love it AND
you will become a better BB player (or give up and play UK).

I just did 150k in my Nagato, I'll admit, its not at level, Far from it. But none the
less, it passes your "Never seen one do good" test.

Aussie: If we're talking about typical great battles, remember that most SoDaks are
played as SlowDaks for some reason...

a couple of aa suggestions.

on yamato switch the foremost aa gun for a 6.1 trip (and the rearmost) load he ammo in the
b locker leaving a locker empty, the other t-slots run 4.7's as normal with aa shells in
the a locker only. cos the yammi can only carry 3 binds it can be a great help not to
waste any 18" shells on ss-dd-cl etc.

i quite like to switch (mostly SY not so much on yammi) 6 of my aa guns (3 on each side
-the top row's) for the single barrel 4.7 type 10, it has a faster rld allowing for a
better coverage of fire.

****not recommended for anything other than GB|*|**
for days when GB's seem to be populated only with BW cv's on yam/Syam use the 5" aa guns
to actually kill a whole wave of bombers ;)

Heh, That's interesting.

I'll take my Nagato vs any other BB3 (Even a Vanguard) and see how we do in 1v1, or 10
games of GB, see who gets the better score.

ALL SHIP! are Skill based. If you suck in game, you will suck with UK/US/KM/IJN.

You just make your "guide" look silly by writing this fiction of how great japan
battleships are, when you know darn well the servers are dominated by US and UK
battleships. UK armor means your "hard hitting" 16" shells do zero damage and their
blockshot accuracy will sink your fat nagato in 2 shots. US has faster and harder hitting
ships without a doubt. But if you want to continue to ignore these things and preach
Japan superiority, i'll be sure to keep my eyes open for someone that actually plays japan
and see how they dominate. That is if there is anyone that hasnt already given up and
switched to US or UK.

@ Aussie, Okay then, lets both play 10 GB's Your in Fuso, I'll play Nagato. Let's see who
gets the better Attack's k?

I agree with Bore about the accuracy, Let it improve some.

BoRe I ask you please, don't comment on UK in this thread.

" That and the wtf spread. used it for the last 2 lvl to yammy, cuz i was
uber bored after 20 level in a Fuso."

lol me too. i loved nagato except for same scouts as BB2, same supports as BB2,
same damage as BB2, less guns/ damage as BB2, and... THE CRAP RANDOM BS
ACCURACY!

i liked nagato becuase of reload damage scouts and its fast and able to rush...
rushing in yamato for me seems impossible. i usualy spend half the game running
from nelsons or PoWs.

something needs to be done with nagatos accuracy(as it does not improve AT ALL)
then it will be a great BB3.

aussie....ive got at level crew....and i scored more 200k+ game with it than i did with my
iowa, including the game ive done at lvl 120.

Yammy has great AA once you learn to master it, you become a black spot on the map, and
hit like a truck. Also the at level speed is great, lot better than H39, maybe a bit like
the iowa.

Nagato, i liked fuso better, but ive never been once defeated by a fuso with my nagato.
You just need to keep your range. But my playstyle is more aggressive, therefore i
prefered the fuso to grind to yammy. But it got 42 (speed cap) at level and the 2nd best
power/range balance. A BB5 grade crew sodak might be better, depending on the driver. But
at level no, i dont think so.

Fortunately this isnt a 1v1 game, and even suggesting that is utterly rediculous. If you
want to take overall averages of fuso, nagato, and the other BB3's in great battle games,
from what ive _seen_ over the last couple thousand games is that the nagato is
consistently among the first to die, the lowest damage total and the least kills out of
the lot. You can continue to argue how good it is on paper when specific conditions are
met when crew is a certain level and the game type is a certain kind, but show me a nagato
that is more effective than any of the afformentioned ships in a great battle. Ive yet to
see one.

And again, you're saying yamato is good in fleet battles, or BB1-4 rooms _when_ it has
rediculous high crew levels. So basicaly it's only good in 0.5% of the games that are
played, and in the other 99.5% of the games it's useless. Yay. Yamato rules. Get real.
