  • So, Whats a CV's Role?

Just a wild shot outta the ole NavyField Dark, what exactly are CV's expected to do during GB2?
(Considering GB2 is all anyone can play because nothing else pays out experience or credits,
even though the pay on the experience for experienced CV players is crap) (I should expand on
this, considering I make at the very most 20k experience per pilot when I spend most of my
time scouting, but if I do anything other than scout EVEN BOMB AT THE VERY END! I catch flak)

Scout?
First thing that comes to mind for about 95% of BB players.
I remember when CV players used to tell the BB types to go fly a kite but thats another subject.

Bomb?
Do any of the honest hard working cv captains feel a bit put upon when a bomber whore is on
your team? I do, I mean I have to work harder scouting.. while he just spams bombers and
racks up attack. For the love of god I actually had a BOMBER WHORE tell me I wasn't scouting
enough!

Fight?
We train for months on end so our fighters will be top notch.. is scouting all we're good for?

I'm trying very hard to meld into the whole GB2 crowd, considering there is no other way to
make decent experience. Is there any way to make everyone happy? Certainly not. However,
I've come to the conclusion that theres just no making ............. I would say everyone but the
truth is........... ANYONE happy. I can sit right behind the BB line and spam fighters for 8-10
minutes straight, drop the 'vision' for thirty seconds and hear NOOB CV, SCOUT SOUTH! with
no delay.

BB captains are up on the front line doin' there thing.. takin time to pick thier shot. They get
popped for one reason or another and who do they target with the accusations? Did it ever
occur to them that they shouldn't have been sitting back waiting for the right opportunity? That
the guy that just sent 3 waves of 10 fighters is sending even more fighters now so they could
see... fighting against 4bar gold emdens/moltkes.. lvl 120 tier4 ftrs... and gas
consumption.. just so they have thier precious 'VISION'. I actually had a guy tell me tonight he
can send fighters over the enemy AA and not lose a single fighter.. mmm BULL*&%$
Four Bar Gold Emden? .. sorry but your full of it dude.. even if he doesn't have his angles right
all he has to do is spray in your direction and at least one will fall. And lets not even touch on
Flagships and SS's.

SCOUT NOOB! that is by far the most prominent two words in the CV's vocabulary.
Everyone wants 8 cv's to magically appear in thier GB games but can't figure out why nobody
plays cv when the insults fly so freely when a certain side loses.

Bottom line is I dont think BB captains understand the impact they have on the CV pilots. I've
been grinding (almost up to Shinano now) for about two months and am still amazed at the
insults I recieve on a daily basis. I can spam fighters for half a dozen games, same number,
same technique.. SAME WAY. If we win its fine but if we lose.. it always seems to be the CV's
Fault.

I am truly trying to stay with the popular consensus and use fighters mostly to scout for the
better of my team. But with such a low experience gain, and the constant insults why shouldn't
I just bomber whore and ignore everyone?

Until BB's carry their own scouts, what chance have you got in convincing CV's to do the
same (lol) ?

Example Scenario) I'm using my Midway, blinding the enemy 50%+ of the GB and providing
sight on most of the enemy team for 95% of the game. What do my BB's do? Play passive sail
around, AA my own fighters.... maybe shoot a DD oh and then die like noobs. Occasionally
if I team up with a decent BB or 2 we will utterly dominate GB's but it gets kinda old
pwning noobs :)

My point being why bother, it's far more enjoyable to bomb you all in my Soviet DB whore.
As usual I fall back on "Not your personal air force" macro. Also I wish to point out that
scout control on this server from all the CL's CA's BB's and some CV's that have adopted
scouts on their ships is god aweful bad.

Step1) Getting BB's to carry their own scouts.
Step2) Controlling said scouts with some form of skill.

I am with V2s side on this topic.

FWing is becoming more and more pointless. You do not have a impact on the game
you had 1 or 2 years ago - the chances are very high that your BBs have no idea
what to do with the sight you give them. And to make things worse, the games go
longer and longer... Because both sides are incompetent. I had GB2s that hit the
time limit with 3+ BBs on both sides left - neither of wich was able to break 50k in
dmg.

You can either BW or stop playing CV. If I had good chances of having a decent BB
player on my team most of the time, I would gladly play my CV. But like this? I rather
play BB. Even I can hold my own against this failing tards.

If I can see and the enemy is blind, we'll win 99 times out of 100. I like those odds. Any
CV that also likes those odds can play on my team anytime.

"The most efficient playstyle is for a CV to scout first, kill enemy planes as a 2nd
priority without compromising scouting."

Sorry to say those days are gone Lukas. Just giving most BBs vision will do little when
most players do not know how to use the ship they are in.

It used to be if there were 5 BB5s in a room for example, 3 would know what they are
doing. Nowadays you can have 5 BB5s per side that do not know what they are doing.
Supporting them will only bring you down.

Bombing? The only way it works is if you are against bad CV players, and you manually bomb.

A team will quickly fall apart if they can't see; The only exception to this is 120 scouts; However, we all
know they need to be nerfed.

Let me make it abundantly clear that I don't play NF to give pleasure to BBs. I am
not your personal slave. I play this game for fun (Ha ha, good one royal - oh wait,
you're being serious?) not to aid in your goal of growing your e-penis.

It would be fun for me to load up 8 TP and 80 Swordfish and fly as many TBs out as I
could. Otoh, losing isn't fun. So I try to balance out doing things I don't really like
doing with things I do like doing since there is an inverse relation between the good
XP at the end and the fun of playing during the actual game.

I think I am not an idiot. Sometimes I do noobish things, but I always launch ftr first,
always try to scout using ftr, but there are some aggravating factors.

Firstly, I run an RN CV. Ceteris paribus I am always going to lose fighter battles. I
don't mind that I lose fighters, but I want to actually accomplish something.

Which leads me onto the second point. Altitude regardless, AAW kill my planes.
About 50% of the time I have done scouting missions there have been enough AAW
to srsly damage the scouting.

It is insufficient just to say "if CV scout then the team wins." BBs imo should do more
to at least hurt enemy AA. Just crippling or hitting an emden once so I can finish it off
or something. It is that AA that is killing your vision, so don't blame me if you let it go
unmolested.

I try and scout and I try and bomb BBs and CVs. Most CVs who carry bombers do the
same. In my experience BWing is rarely a problem.

I hate all of the CV abuse in NF. I made the (mistake?) of choosing CV as my first line.
Level 61, I knew I was basically screwed. First battle, all I heard was NOOB CV SCOUT
STOP BOMBING GIVE ME VISION. Lets see....T1 verses T3? Who will win every single
time? And honestly, since when is it the CVs job to scout? BBs have a scout slot. Use it.
Plus, 9 times out of 10, I would scout after the babies started to cry, and guess what?
They either don't shoot or screw up SO bad that they do no damage. I mean really. I've
seen 9/9 gunners able to shoot better than their elite 13/11 boosted vetted gunners. I
think it's just sad. I really do. My summary of BB play style:
Whine. Miss. Lose. Rinse. Repeat.

But I do agree that there are noob CVs (like said above) that send 10 bombers on 1
pilot right into an emden or pom poms. They don't deserve the rage, but they should at
least have SOMEONE give help instead of normal old BB play style.

As mentioned several times before by others, I don't really mind what style a CV player
prefers as long as he tries to apply his strategy with some sense.
Tossing 8 bombers at max height at an emden does not qualify as sensible.

"CVs get shared experience. Winning gets you more experience.

Play to win? "

Shared exp or no playing to win is what EVERYONE should strive for.

If you choose to play attack CV and bomb then go right ahead. Bombing CVs is instant
gratification but even killing the flag wont always win the game. Sometimes your team's
BBs are so over matched that killing enemy BBs first will preserve your team and allow for
a more sure win when the enemy flag is killed.

If you choose to play cover CV then you better protect your flank. Kill all bombers and do
your best to blind. T5 scouts makes this very difficult.

If you choose to play support CV you better have good BBs. Pick a winner BB or two (its
not always a BB5 or 6) and make sure the enemy cannot easily scout him and he dosnt go blind.

What it comes down to is whatever you choose to do there are always situational choices
you must make. Make the wrong choice and it may well lose the game. If you are a high tier
CV and your team is blind, scouted, being bombed, and your bombers are failing or
attacking stupid targets you should expect to be flamed. Its about being effective with
what you choose to do.

If u make sure their cv's cant scout either you're not leaving your team at a
disadvantage... so wheter u bomberwhore and kill their cv's or fw and fightercamp their
cv's shouldnt really matter... BB's that whine for scouts either have to use their scout
more effectivly or u failed at taking out the enemy's fighters :P Either way i find that i
enjoy the game more when i go after the other team's cv's rather then being a scout so
i prefer the first and it works most of the time for me:)
