  • So, Whats a CV's Role?

TemplarBones
Just a wild shot outta the ole NavyField Dark, what exactly are CV's expected to do during GB2?
(Considering GB2 is all anyone can play because nothing else pays out experience or credits,
even though the pay on the experience for experienced CV players is crap) (I should expand on
this, considering I make at the very most 20k experience per pilot when I spend most of my
time scouting, but if I do anything other than scout EVEN BOMB AT THE VERY END! I catch flak)

Scout?
First thing that comes to mind for about 95% of BB players.
I remember when CV players used to tell the BB types to go fly a kite but thats another subject.

Bomb?
Do any of the honest hard working cv captains feel a bit put upon when a bomber whore is on
your team? I do, I mean I have to work harder scouting.. while he just spams bombers and
racks up attack. For the love of god I actually had a BOMBER WHORE tell me I wasn't scouting
enough!

Fight?
We train for months on end so our fighters will be top notch.. is scouting all we're good for?

I'm trying very hard to meld into the whole GB2 crowd, considering there is no other way to
make decent experience. Is there any way to make everyone happy? Certainly not. However,
I've come to the conclusion that theres just no making ............. I would say everyone but the
truth is........... ANYONE happy. I can sit right behind the BB line and spam fighters for 8-10
minutes straight, drop the 'vision' for thirty seconds and hear NOOB CV, SCOUT SOUTH! with
no delay.

BB captains are up on the front line doin' there thing.. takin time to pick thier shot. They get
popped for one reason or another and who do they target with the accusations? Did it ever
occur to them that they shouldn't have been sitting back waiting for the right opportunity? That
the guy that just sent 3 waves of 10 fighters is sending even more fighters now so they could
see... fighting against 4bar gold emdens/moltkes.. lvl 120 tier4 ftrs... and gas
consumption.. just so they have thier precious 'VISION'. I actually had a guy tell me tonight he
can send fighters over the enemy AA and not lose a single fighter.. mmm BULL*&%$
Four Bar Gold Emden? .. sorry but your full of it dude.. even if he doesn't have his angles right
all he has to do is spray in your direction and at least one will fall. And lets not even touch on
Flagships and SS's.

SCOUT NOOB! that is by far the most prominent two words in the CV's vocabulary.
Everyone wants 8 cv's to magically appear in thier GB games but can't figure out why nobody
plays cv when the insults fly so freely when a certain side loses.

Bottom line is I dont think BB captains understand the impact they have on the CV pilots. I've
been grinding (almost up to Shinano now) for about two months and am still amazed at the
insults I recieve on a daily basis. I can spam fighters for half a dozen games, same number,
same technique.. SAME WAY. If we win its fine but if we lose.. it always seems to be the CV's
Fault.

I am truly trying to stay with the popular consensus and use fighters mostly to scout for the
better of my team. But with such a low experience gain, and the constant insults why shouldn't
I just bomber whore and ignore everyone?

Does it really matter?? Teamwork is SO out the window in this game, its not even funny..
Just go out and play. Dont worry about what anyone else says or does. Your always going to
have the guys that dont do well in battles, so they blame it on the cv's..
Like I said, its a free for all in great battles.. So play how you want to play. The way
it goes in this game is, get in as many battles as possible. Winnng is better, but win or
lose, level as quick as you can.. Thats why 90% of the player base have NO real skills.....

CVs get shared experience. Winning gets you more experience.

Play to win?

"I'm trying very hard to meld into the whole GB2 crowd, considering there is no other

You are right there is no other way you are only in if you grovel and if you dont grovel
you will be forced to grovel by those that agreed to it and if your concience wont let you
because after all IT IS YOUR GAMING EXPIERENCE ie free time logic dictates that you
spend it doing what is in your own self interest

teamwork aside if you are doing the heavy lifting so the rest of your team can coast by
not scouting then you become the stable boy of the match as long as you have a good
idea of what has to be accomplished then stand up for yourself and go tell them to take
a flying leap

50k attack or experience, and thats just the leader of a team or everyone?

I've done a few all cv games, its mostly for creds from what I can tell.. and usually boils down
to whoever has guns.

50k in a BB all room, with no need to depend on CVs to scout.

or mess around avoiding teammates going in a straight line and blocking my
shots/crossing me.

K, Ledan.. what game mode do you play in thats so hot?

I remember playin' op convoy and gettin 200k exp for a 45 minute excursion, no more.
Remember gettin' loads of exp in an All Welcome, nerfed that too. What mode are you thinkin
is better than GB2?

Thanks for all the replies, although they weren't quite as negative as I'd expected I'm glad to
see people think as I do. I'm guessin' the whiners dont frequent the forums which is fine.

Truthfully, only time that you could realistically get ZERO insults from your team is if
your team is your fleetmates. Why? Because (hopefully) your fleet realizes 1.) the
importance of teamwork and cooperation and 2.) the fact that insults doesn't help anyone
get better. Others, who have no connection with you at all, have all the excuse to call
you a noob for dropping vision for 10 secs... So unless you can put up vision for the
ENTIRE game, prepare to hear some insults.

And here are some other things you forgot to touch on that some might apreciate...

What if you're a low lvl CV with low lvl fighters? If someone sees you in a Yorktown with
locals, they start yelling at you to scout... WITH YOUR FREAKING LOCALS!!! I seriously
wonder at that point who's the real noob. I personally sail really close to the main
battle line, risk getting one-shotted by a BB5, just to clear the skies of T4s so you BBs
can launch your scouts (getting to that in a second). If this has happened to you, just
say to them, "give me some lvl 100 fighters" They should all shut up after that...

Also, many BBs go in without scouts. As my fleet master said it the best, "CV's ARE NOT [A
BB DRIVER's] SLAVE..." I guess I can understand it if a Nelson or a BB1, maybe even a BB2
goes in without a scout. After all, he probably won't survive for too long... But a Super
Yammy without scouts telling his team's BBs to scout? WTH? I know that my statement right
now contradicts my teamwork statement above, but that just burns me up and makes me want
to TK them. Only problem with that is that they're already dead... (wonder why :P)

With all my complaints (and TemplarBone's) you wonder why after the server merge CVs are
still kinda hard to find

Hi.

I usually play BB, but i played CV sometime and know how dificult can be.

I think the only thing a cv driver has to do is do the right thing at the right moment,
not matter to much the setting of pilots he takes. But there are some things that
drive me crazy.

If a cv driver tries to scout, why does he load waves of 10 fps? that is not too useful.
2 minutes loading fps are 2 minutes blind, waves of 10 fps are easy target for AA,
and a few time giving light for then spend another 2 minutes to load another wave.
Better try to carry at least 4 FP pilots and load waves of 3 or 4 fps, 2 or 3 waves in
air and 1 or 2 redy to take off, thus the time to be blind is much lower. If you want to
scout, pleae dont fight. More of the time fight are useless, but if you have to fight
please fight above enemy BBs never above me. I only want friendly fps above me
when they are trying to hunt enemy DBs

If you are a cv BW, try to be smart. Dont kill your dbs againts enemy fps once and
again and again and again... Try to chose the right target and the right way to get
there. After bombing is posible that your DBs can help the team scouting a little.
Value the situation and give your best.

I really dont understand cv TW. In my opinion as BB driver is quite useless. Torpers
most of the time are easy to dodge, do not do too much damage and have to fight
againts bulge and right configuration of Belt armor. They can sometime sunk me if i
am badly damaged, but they really dont scare me. DBs that scare me. Torpers UK or
IJN are no so bad, but i repeat DBs scare me more.

In my opinion CV KM TW is most useless setting for a cv, and almost always mean cv
noob.

My respect for all cv drivers, and my apologies if I ever said something inappropriate
or unfair to them. I really appreciate the one who does it or tries to do it well, even if
i dont say.

I have no problems with any CVs so long as they can actually win the game.

If someone wants to BW and kill every BB I will not complain PROVIDED they do so every
game they play. BWing is far too risky to be a competent strategy and most of the time a
BW CV can't win a room on their own.

The best CVs are the ones who provide scouting for BBs who are proven good players. I
played a game yesterday and was the only remaining BB5 against 6 enemy BBs. I had 2
Montanas north and a LionII south with enough room to kill them all quite easily despite
the fact I was fightercamped.

All the CV south had to do was to scout ANY of the BBs so that I could engage them but he
was too busy sitting there launching wave after wave of TBers right into enemy fighters.

Here is the bottom line:

If I am on your team in a L2 or H44 or anything bigger and you want to win use your
fighters to help scout and protect me and we will win. The same is true for any good BB
player around (not that there are many of them).
