  • Data Corrupted Issue - March 2011 Update

    03. 07. 2010 08:54

Stormvanger
Our favorite issue is still with us, so long now that I've put a YEAR in the update in the
title. There's still no blanket fix for this issue, the updater still sometimes fails to
update your installation correctly and the result is the "DATA CORRUPTED" issue we've come
to know and loathe. Anyway, with the latest thread update, we've updated some of the
procedures slightly. (I'd say "enjoy", but I know you won't.)

There's no best way to fix it, as each fix depends on your PC's setup. And all our PCs
are at least a little different. But if you are seeing the DATA CORRUPTED message,
the method that has worked more often than not is as follows...

1 - Go into control panel, add/remove programs and uninstall Navyfield.

2 - Use regedit.exe to open your PC's registry. Search for "SD Enternet" and delete
anything it finds. (IF you are not comfortable editing the registry, you can skip this
step. But if it fails to solve your problem, you'll likely have to go back and do it again
and add in this step after all. People have reported success both with and without
this step.)

3 - Navigate to your SD Enternet directory (usually c:\program files\sd enternet) and
delete it and all subdirectories.

4 - reboot. (it's windows, it loves this step. =)

5 - Go to the DOWNLOAD section of this site, the GAME DOWNLOAD subsection and
download and install a fresh copy of navyfield. CNET will take longer but seems
always reliable, while SDE's link is quicker. (Current version is as follows...)

http://sdentglobal.nefficient.com/sdenternet/Download/NF1315.exe

6 - DO NOT START THE GAME AFTER THE INSTALL

7 - Now hit this URL and download the latest manual patch and run it.
http://www.navyfield.com/chkcount/chk_download_05.asp?Code=button_patch

8 - Compatibility Mode is no longer a good idea, since the Hackshield patch. DO NOT use
Compatibility mode.

Steps 5 and 7 combined bypass the updater altogether and install the latest version
of the game. This has worked for quite a few people. PLEASE test it out and let us
know if it worked or not!

IMPORTANT NOTE - some users have reported success by disabling their anti-virus
software during steps 4 and 6, as non-standard or out-dated anti-virus programs
can interfere with software installations.

THE LAST THING TO TRY

If you've followed the above steps and your computer is still trying to deny you your
gaming experience, please open a support ticket on the blue column to your left.
There might be something amiss with your account that only a GM can fix, or your PC
could have a non-standard setup that a tech mod could advise you on.

now im getting the same issue but each time i launch the game it downloads the
same 34 files each time, could this be the problem? i have uninstalled and reinstalled
3 times and tried deleting the .Data files which seems to provide me with spit since
the launcher wont redownload the .Data files anyhow.

Prior to what I believe was patch 1285 the game worked fine on my XP computer. I now
receive the data file corrupted warning.
I have tried all the tricks done back in beta. I have folllowed all the suggests in this
thread. I have downloaded the game 4 times from three separate sources. I have removed
everything pertaining to the game from the directory and all windows files.
Still no success.

1 down the client from the link on the "download" section. and the patch. the patch tells
me "client version too old" o.0 >40 min
2 I update the client file by file, at start up. "Data Corrupted" =.= >30 min
3 uninstal, regedit, cclean, reboot >4 min
4 download the NF1285 client at 100k/sec x.x >90 min
5 reinstall >IT WOIKS!

imagine just how many new players would go trough all that to get the game going....
NONE!

Tried everything, nothing works.
NF screwed up (again) & i'm tired of dealing with their lack of concern for the player
base.
Why should i have to work my butt off fixing their mistakes... just so they can
make $ off me ?
I'll submit a support ticket, but just like everything else NF, i doubt i'll be satisfied.
Most likely good-bye for me.

Haven't entered the ticket yet (next step), but this is a bit less than "non-standard
setups" at this point!

Win7 64 bit, running in compat mode

1. Was fine
2. updated
3. data corruption error
4. deleted all .DATA files
5. first .data file replaced, restarted nf
6. second .data file replaced, still couldn't find yt.data
7. multiple tries, got lots of new .data files (13-14?), couldn't get yt.data, tried
unerasing it,
still data corruption
8. uninstalled the client, deleted the entire SD Enternet directory from Program Files
9. spent 12 hours downloading the client (thanks to the trans-atlantic throughput), used
the main page link to CNET for download of full game.
10. Set NF1285.exe to run compat for win98/me, admin rights
11. NF1285 asks if admin ok, then crashes back to desktop
12. expanded compat mode to win98/me, 64 colors, etc. (all options)
13. Still crashes back to desktop without installing
14. Went into the registry and cleaned out all references (many left...lovely uninstall I
might add)
15. Rebooted again
16. Still crashes to desktop with no error, no install.
EDIT: 17. Downloaded NF1284 from the Trainworld Links (about 1.5 hours)
18. Installed 1284, allowed update to 1285 by enfunsupdater
19. game worked, finally.

Not the most graceful of updates.
