Belaphron

So, i'm about to get a UK CV, and I was wondering if I could get some tips on CV tactics and the like, such as what ratio of Fighters to Bombers.

Any help would be appreciated.

With UK, you will be running TBs and FPs.   You will want to have the flexibility to run heavy fighter or heavy bomber formations.  That means you'll be grooming at least 5-8 Fighter pilots and at least 3-4 Torpedo Bombers.

The progression through the various CVs simply increases the support slots and aircraft lifts (elevators).

Eventually, you'll also need 1 Seaman with excellent pilot ability, and one other support slot, probably engineer and two gunners.  So those need to be leveled up and rotated into your slots.

Your bombers and fighter pilots need to be rotated in to keep their levels equal, otherwise you'll find some of your pilots unable to use the higher level planes.

I used this guide

http://tirpitz.navyfield.de/guide_cv_en.pdf

and learned a great deal about the little ins and outs of CV play like launching your highest numbered ready pilot first instead of the lowest.  I'd also cross post your request in the UK section of this forum as a lot of nations seem to have nation specific CV help threads.

I disagree with using both a seaman and an engineer because, you get at most 9 support slots on PCV/CV6 and you can hold 8 pilots. All CVs should carry 8 pilots total and then 1 engy/restore/repair/seaman/medic. I prefer an engy for CV select mode and seaman for GB.

I never use seaman, quite pointless if you ask me.

I use 2 seaman in the gun slots of the CV leaving the support slots for pilots.   With a UK CV and their AA, i might have a gunner or gunners instead

It's really up to the CV player. Some people think that it is pointless while others think it's useful. I run either a seaman or restore/engy just to fill that last slot.

Ewood

Not really bothered about seaman sailors.

On my US CV, i'm running 2 support sailors in the gun-slots (mainly as an experiment) and either an engi or a rep along with either 6 fighters and 2 bombers or 6 fighters 2 scouts or 8 fighters.

The support sailors are mainly an experiment but they seem to be working so far.

With regards to UK CV's, it depends on your playstyle. I generally went fighter heavy, 6 fighters and 2 bombers. For that load-out it would be a case of enough bombers to launch 2 waves and the rest fighters. If I ever went for a 'balanced' load out of 4 fighters and 4 bombers (or even 5 and 3 as for the most of my first UK cv crew), then I'd go roughly 1/2 to 2/3rds fighters and 1/2 to 1/3 bombers depending on if I wanted to bomb more or not

Either way, as long as the player doesn't run 4 scouts 3 bombers in a PCV/CV6 like some people like to do.
