  • Submarine defence against torpedoes.

Well, my suggestion is:

'For example, a submarine vs submarine fight, the attacking submarine attacks from the back, or front, and the attacking sub is
firing torpedoes, then I think it would be cool to send special torpedoes back that can hit the attacking torpedoes. So
you intercept the torpedoes. The only thing what I think it would be good when you balance it, is the splash damage is
pretty high for the defending submarine.

Sorry for my bad english >.< I hope someone understands what I mean.

So you want a special counter-attack torpedo which destroys the enemy torpedo?
Subs are currently fine, they're just dead whiteout rear torp...

I think the bigger question is, can torpedoes be defeated?

Today, the answer is no.

But if you think about it, the ability to stop a torpedo from hitting your ship does make sense. The ability to target your guns at the torpedoes could (should?) have a damage ability, somewhat similar to shooting mines.

Not sure about anti-torpedo torpedo, but if a short-fused torpedo has a blast radius of some range, then it could plausibly cause damage, or even deflect a torpedo's direction or cause an early detonation.

Even today they do not attack the torpedoes but their guiding systems. A bit like jetfighters launch flare counter measure against heat seaking missiles.

In WWII the only such system was a sound emitting device that was hauled by warships to counter germans accoustic torpedoes. And it worked only once.

Since sound homing torps aint in NF (and better not be...) its kinda pointless to have this discussion, as the WWII torps mainly had a contact detonator and only a bearing to set a heading.

I think that anti- torpedo torpedoes would be OP unless it has SUPER SLOW RELOAD because... sub finally makes it to a BB without being detected.Launches torp. TORPEDO IN SIGHT. BB spams the fire anti torp button...

But anyway, I remember playing a old game, and i could launch something that looked a bit like mini- depth charges which i could use to destroy torpedoes at close range.
