I think I remember something along the lines of ship sprites made by SDE actually being sprite renders generated from 3D models.
Ive always wondered what a higher resolution NF would look like aswel... but nowadays I just say that it's a unique graphic style :)
Graphics = Gameplay, is not a statement that works, especially not with NF.
