  • Midway crew

I'm working on a US carrier line culminating in a Midway class. Which sailors do you recommend I have in the end?
Better to ask now before i get under way than having to redo it later.

You can only have 8 Pilots, so you will need 3 additional sailors plus a BO. So 12 sailors total. You would be wise to have a Seaman, a Repairer, and an Engineer for the 3 additional. For the pilots, it just depends on your choice of play style. The most common setups are 4 Fighters/4 Bombers, 6F/2B, or 2F/6B. You want at least 2 fighters and 2 bombers that way you can keep the sky clear and do damage.

I doubt you will want the engineer, as he probably won't help you much in running away. And if you have to run, you either did something really wrong, or its the end of the game and you are screwed anyways. Instead, I would suggest that you get a seaman, and either a restorer and something else to reach 900SD, or two gunners to defend yourself against subs or other small ships that try to hump you.

8 Pilots (6 FPs/2 Bombss or 4/4 or all 8 FPs, US isn't really much of a Bomber nation so no need for more than 4 Bombers) Elites FPs or +12 Fighter Stats work. Bombers can be 12s or 11s or Elite. TBs I recommend Elites

(Or be like me and have 8 Fps and 8 Dbs for lolz Also have Special Forces to be TBs some day

3 Seaman, Elite Pot or Fighter or high in the 2 stats.

Boost All Sailors and try to get 150+ Vets on Fighters and TBs, DBs it doesn't make a difference how many vets it as... It only effects its Resistance to being Fired on.

Bo If can save money and go all free on it? Try to get a high Repair and/or Restore Stat. If you want Max SD you can B/V/E this as well.

Learn how to properly use Fighters

On a side note if you do everything right you can even get 900 SD without a Restorer just with Seamen boosting the rest stat on all other sailors.

What do you want to do with your midway?

If you want to use it for HAs, with the current metagame you will need to have at least 2 scoutpilots.

I haven't planned on any HAs, just to use it in GBs

For GBs I would reccommend the following setup:

1 BO, 2 RLD Gunners for HH, 5 Fighterpilots, 3 Divebomberpilots, 1 Engineer/Sonarman

no offence, but what good is a sonarman on a cv? it cant detect a sub anyway.

with an SS FCS and a sonarman, CVs can detect subs. (Im not 100% that SS FCS is necessary but I THINK it is

It works with all types of FCS. But personally I would run with an engineer and guess the subs position.
