Depth charges are a reasonable anti sub weapon which-unlike hedgehogs-are not open to abuse by people using them against surface ships.
But,cv's-which are arguably more at risk from subs than any other ship-can't use them.
Why?
Because they are officially classed as torpedoes, and therefore only fit on T slots-which cv's don't have!
So how about reclassing depth charge launchers as guns?
That way, they'll fit on the R slots, which most cv's DO have.

Depth charges are the best anti-submarine weapon available in my opinion and much better than hedgehogs. However as with any weapon it depends upon how they are employed. With depth charges you need to get close in to your enemy and avoid any torpedoes that are being sent by him and that means speed and manvoerability, something carriers do not have. So for them its best to just keep moving away and to try sink him before he can get in range so that means hedgehogs.

think carriers should at least have the option.

most of the time when carriers realize a sub is around is when it is right under it or within DC range.

CVs with depth charges is a little ridiculous.

However, they ought to go through and give ASW weapons some attention anyways. One model of depth charge launcher? Let's see some variety, some incentive for having higher-level crews, or bigger T-slots. Same thing with hedgehogs--the current power of these ASW weapons shouldn't be available from level 12, push them up a bit, add some intermediate versions with slower reload or less capacity, weaker munitions... then add possibly a higher-tier version or two that packs more of a punch for high-level ASW. (Yes, I know there are balance problems there. That's a matter for the sub balancing thread, and it's already been discussed. I'm just hitting weapon highlights here.)

If they go through and do that, and also add a special DC launcher or two for R-slots, in the same way they sometimes add a unique gun type for certain ships... then so be it.

CV6 + gun slots + DC on each gunslot = Suicide ship.

CV6 would indeed be a suicide ship.

>considering most CL+ ships that mount DC can only load 1 bind of 2 charges
>implying you are using the DC as antiship weapon
>assuming you aren't using any other gun at your disposal
>assuming you are chasing after a ship without any SD

on the other hand

>Assuming you are chasing subs with your 12-26 DC racks
>Assuming you wouldnt be using PHH anyway since your first projectors would reload by the time you gradual to your last.
