Hello everybody.

I hear everywhere that you need to keep your gunners ahead of your BO, 1-2 lvls etc.
When you do this, you can use better guns earlier for the new ship.

My BO is lvl 83 now, on Nagato, using 16.1 L guns, Light HE Ammo, and my shells fall longer than my gun lines.

Exactly, my shells at 45 degree lands very far, at 30 degree it hits the edge of the gun line.

Do I need to B/V/E my BO? I am preparing for the Yamato at level 91, with L guns and I want to hit the edge with the maximum angle.

Thank you.

Yes, bve would be nice.

BVE is nice although not necessary. As you level you will get longer lines and in the end you will need to remove recruits from your bo. Boosting you BO will give you short term help but long term (particularly if you are not spending lots) boost an engy. You should have ve on your BO though (100 vets is sufficient).

Oh and make sure you have great engys for the yammy it is slow at first and I found it difficult as my support were not up to scratch.

In my opinion, if you can see the shells land, then your BO is OK.
Guidelines not only depend on your BO, but on your FCS too if I'm not wrong, so BVEing your BO won't necessarily help if your FCS is not helping you get there.

If you can spot your shells, fire north or south at the start and you will have the endline mark and is as helpful as having your full guideline. As kila said before, you will have to trim your BO later, so I wouldn't recommend the effort of BVEing it.

It is quite normal that at around lvl 75 to possibly lvl 90, you can't see where your shells land. I agree with nyerk
that as long as you can see where the shells land, it should be fine.

When your BO gets to a higher lvl, you will be able to see the line sooner or later, so i don't think it's necessary to BVE your BO too much, although if you are really desperate, or if it's affecting your performance in game too much, it is an option.

However, as your BO reaches an even higher lvl, the line will be way longer than where your shells land, so if you can hang on to it, just wait for your BO to reach a higher lvl.

Sight range and gunlines are dependent on BO and FCS...

It is a combination of the Operating ability of the BO and the "search range" value for the FCS

gunlines work weird... at low levels they are too short, and at high levels they are too long if your BO has average growth. Most people have to BVE their BO to get good lines at low levels and then kill off a ton of rookies and even experts at high levels in order to not have gunlines that are the size of the whole map

Thanks everyone for the input.

I can see my shells land at the very best gun I can use now with light shells, so it is ok.

It is not going to get worse but better in time, I just got to check from time to time my angles while I level up, which is not happening frequently right now :)

I think this can go in the Tips and Tactics section now that the question has been answered.

NEVER Boost your BO... its as useless as filling a BB with restores. Your BO will in time get the experts and vets needed to see your shells... usually happens around BB2-BB3.

I disagree with this.. If you have a BO with a +14 potential and +11 or better repair, boosting it makes it a +13 repair stat (higher if UK). This can easily add ~ 850 repair at level 60s and 1500+ at higher levels. Also improves restore rate (for low end BBs). In general I always aim for a +14 (or +15) potential with a +11 repair and +10+ restore. (again I realize restore caps SD at 900 which isn't usually until 80s (I think) with KM crew without restorer (much earlier with UK with the bonus +2)

There is nothing more frustrating than firing your new BB1-3 guns and seeing the shells disappear. It then becomes guess work. I also run with a seaman which will give you the small improvement (1-3% max) Experts will help but unless you have expert packs (and I'd rather use these on gunners or engys) trying to convert vets to experts can be laborous at best (ie. it helps to always have a low-cap of vets. I use 50 vets until I get 50 experts and then my cap is 150 vets after that)
