IJN has the most powerful torps? then i'd go for IJN for my sub.

which sub now has longest range torps?, used to IJN i know, which is why i prefered the IJN sub to the KM sub, both good mind. I've not done MN or SN so i am unsure which sub has best torp range anymore, i'd be interested to know pls?.And this info may help Junie2 to make a more informed choise.

Km is proxy torps with no damage , Best i find is mn ss line. but usn ss5 looks to be the top one.

KM has the Proxy torpes and better turn rates for their subs. IJN has most powerful torpedoes and the SS5 can launch TB's (Pointless but I think it's fun). USN is average in most categories pre-SS5. The Gato is one hell of a sub from what I've seen. UK is pretty much useless IMO, their SS5 has a 12" deck gun which I've only seen one person use effectively. I haven't really looked into SN or MN for that matter but I was told SN had pretty piss-poor torpedoes, although that is only second hand knowledge.

Depending on what your planning on using the sub for I'd say the following
KM - Best sub killer
IJN - Ship Killer
US - Combination (Gato seems more anti-ship)
And I don't care about the rest

To add something- Keep in mind, IJN can be slow at turning and no rear torpedoes from tier 4-5, but its a killer machine, when used properly. I d recommend putting 4-5 engineers for the most speed and overheat prolonged.

IMHO, the US ss5 is the best sub... hands down. 6 forward tubes and 4 rear.

The KM ss4 is a close second, their prox torps being a huge advantage when fighting other subs.

The ijn ss4 with 8 front tubes and the ijn ss5 with 6 front tubes and the ability to launch torp bombers make them interesting to play. The ss4, while slow, if you get into range and fire all 8 tubes on max speed will absolutely vaporize all but the most heavily armored BB's. I have never seen any ship survive two full salvos from an ijn ss4. But the lack of rear torp tubes is a liability when fighting other subs or trying to deal with a ff/dd that is tailing you. The ijn subs maddening lack of speed is so frustrating.
