If you want long range, don't go UK. Go KM or SN.

I'm not sure things will improve.
I was ranging you in blitz with my neutral destroyer a couple of weeks ago. You might remember me as
I was being heckled as noob for hosting a normal sized map with 20 players. Maybe now some people
might realize why a normal map in blitz helps to distinguish good and bad players.
Simply put, if you can't handle my(or any other TTF level 5 neutral destroyers) in blitz, you shouldn't
be expecting to get much done in great battle.

You are playing a Sodak with no scout and no SD. Your main problem is that you don't have the proper
crew or gameplay experience for the ships you are using.
The whole point of me hosting normal map blitz with few players is-> if you can't win or anchor your team
there, you have no business being in GB with a BB.
Just because your ship got bigger, doesn't mean you'll be more successful. There is a skill/experience
element to the game. I hope now you and others will see why I choose to host normal sized maps in
blitz with minimal players -> to evaluate your effectiveness.

KM has the longest range but are very hard to play well, their damage is very low, and their accuracy (spread) is literally hit and miss in some ships.

SN is probably the closest to your "precise shooting at long range" ideal.

but range in NF isn't everything and even though you THINK it's your playstyle you might find it doesn't work that way. It isn't that simple and the nations with long range might not suit you for other reasons. For a start they are very hard and unforgiving to play!

I will offer some advice because I had a very similar problem, hating being outranged playing IJN. Even when I got the Nagato (equivalent to your SoDak and with slightly better range) I was still unhappy with my range.

I then got all my supports sorted out and good (speed capped ship, decent OH time, 900 SD and reasonable repair) and learned how to play rushing, which is what you need to do no matter what nation you are because BB2/3 will ALWAYS be outranged by BB4/5.

I asked for advice and I took it and practiced. I then actually went back to my Fuso and chose the guns that had SHORTER range for more firepower, and never looked back!

have a think about that. There are a lot of people who can help you (see the 2 above) but you have to be prepared to be polite and take good advice on board.

you'll be sick of KM pretty soon, when you see you can't do any dmg, and your armor is from paper... go UK, you'll enjoy playing with UK BBs...

I've grinded UK/KM/IJN and US to 120. KM isn't as bad as people make out. You have a range advantage, your spread is fantastic at high levels, you have loads of scouts and fantastic AA. The damage is lower but you have reload to make up for it.

Anyone that claims KM is a lump of crap has no idea how to play it. Yes, there are some issues with some gunsets, but its not actually restricted to just KM guns. The Dunkerque guns have similar issues.

@ljsevern km is not lump of crap, but it's the hardest mode to play with BBs, and that's a fact. I have a Kaiser, so I know what I'm talking about... With H44 you can't 1shot anyone, and almost all BB5s (if not all) can 1shot you... and range advantage is not that big... good things in KM are their AA and reload, with that I agree..

Can't fully appreciate KM until you've done UK

Basically:

KM - The worst nation
RN - The best nation
USN - The second best nation
The rest are middle ground.

Also you will always get outranged or rushed so no need for starting a new crew from scratch. Just get a USN bb5 and start oneshotting people.
