Sen Taka-class
The Sen-takas were similar to the German Type XXI U-boats, optimized for
underwater speed and equipped with a snorkel -schnorchel
The Sen Taka in high bursts of speed, could run faster
submerged than on the surface for up to an hour. The only World War II submarine
comparable in underwater speed to the I-201 class was the German Type
XXI-Type. The I-201 class had streamlined all-welded hulls, high
capacity 4,192 cell batteries and electric motors that provided almost twice the
horsepower of their German-designed diesel engines. The I-201 class were fitted
with schnorchel to allow cruising submerged on their diesels and recharging of their
batteries while underwater. They carried 25-mm guns in retractable mounts to
maintain streamlining.

Type XXI
The Type XXI represented a majorstep forward in submarines technology,the
concept and the design were briliant.
Evrything about Type XXI was new.It had a streamlined hull optimised for
submerged operation,there were no deck guns.On the bridge all extending devices
such as the schnorchel.The type XXI is enabling to lunchthree full six-round savoes
in 20 min,the high underwater speed,recharge batery less than five hours using the
snorkel.
Featured an advanced sonar system an improved passive and active sonar system.
New type of torpedo:Lageunabh?giger guided to that would steer an interception
course programmed by the torpedo analogic computer.
The TypeXXI were much harder to detect than their predecessors on account of their
optimised shape and silent engines.
New subsystems such as engines,schnorchel, compressors, mines, anchors, rescue
devices, steering systems, torpedoes, acoustic detection devices, a redesigned sail,
decoys and much more is make to be the best sub built in ww2.
The Allies were fortunate that the Type XXI U-boat arrived too late to see combat.
Had it been deployed before the end of war, it could have had a devastating impact
on the Battle of the Atlantic.
The whole point about the XXI was that it was invisible to radar. The 10 cm radar
sets available in 1943 had a very hard time picking up the large ball valve snorkel
head of the XXI. The smaller T-valve heads which were in development could not be
seen by 1943 radar and were very hard to find with 1945 radar. The XXI was
virtually invisible on the march.
The big problem with winning the Battle of the Atlantic becomes finding the convoys.
The XXI was capable of finding its own targets out to a distance of around 30 NM
using sonar and it could probably hear a battle 60 or even 90 NM away.

Tench-class
The designe of the Tench is was essential the same as that of the Tambor class,the
only change of any significance being that an extra water bulkhesd was instaled to
sub-dive the somewhat large engine room;this required the hull to be lengthened by
5ft-1,5m.the hull was of all-welded constructionand this combined with increased
stregthening,enabled the new boats to be cleared to operate at 300ft-91m.
The Gato-class was followed into production by the Balo-class,wich was virtual
identic except the hull was made from high tensile rather than the early mild
steel,wich incresed operational diving depth to 400ft-122m.
Externally the Tench-class was virtually indistinguishable from the Ballo-class,but
there were many internal differences.Combat experience resultedin a major
rearrangement of the ballast and fuel tanks to make them less vulnerable to damage.

UK SS6:
United Kingdom

A-class
The great majority of British submarine production during World Warr II was either
repeats or modifications of desiggns produced in the 1930.
The only exception was the a-class and even this was essentially an enlarged and
greatly modified version of the T-class.
the design was prepared in response to a requirement for boats for the war against
Japan,for wich the main requisites were long range,heavy armament and plenty of
reload torpedos,good habitability for long patrols in tropical conditions.
The result was an excellent design,with an all-welded hull simplified construction and
a substantial armament of 10 torpedotubes.
A total of 46boats were ordered and the first to be launched was Amphion in
31 August 1944.
