Yes it does work.

They do not show up in the calendar, however they are added to your coins total.

I left my account at 75 coins yesterday, by logging in today it is now at 80, however it shows no coins earned for today ( the 31st) on the calendar.

Edit: Oh and A Happy New Year to all!
